REMEMBERING MY GOOD FRIEND ROB PARKER - CAVE DIVER TODAY ( DIED - 17th AUGUST 1997 )

Today marks the anniversary of the passing of my close friend, Rob Parker — a name many will recognise in the world of cave diving, caving and extreme climbing.

Rob was a pioneer, always pushing the boundaries of what was thought possible, exploring new depths and forging routes where few dared to go. His courage, determination, and athleticism made him a legend within the caving and diving communities worldwide

But to me, Rob was much more than the fearless explorer people read about. I knew him as a true personal friend — someone who, away from the cave diving media glare, could share his quiet sensitivity, his humour, and the more intimate corners of his life.

We climbed together, we caved together, and often we simply talked. He was a source of support to me and to many others, generous with his time, advice, and encouragement.

Although I didnt dwell in the Pantheon pf cave diving I have many happy memories of photographing Rob's extreme climbing exploits and lesser notable cave dives

Today carries a heavy sadness. I hold close those memories of a remarkable friend behind the legend.

Rob’s legacy lives not only in the caves and climbs he discovered, but in the lives he touched with his warmth and friendship. I will always remember him as the fit, bright, and brave young man who inspired me — and continues to inspire so many — to go a little further, to look a little deeper, and to cherish the bonds we make along the way.

Rest easy, Rob. You are missed, but never forgotten
