This World Sleep Day, I’ve been reflecting on a topic that doesn’t get enough attention in the workplace — chronic insomnia in midlife women.

As a pharmacist and working professional, I see this from both sides.

It’s not just about “feeling tired.”
Chronic insomnia can impact:
▪️ Cognitive performance
▪️ Decision-making
▪️ Emotional resilience
▪️ Workplace productivity

And for many women in midlife — often balancing careers, family, and hormonal changes — the impact is even more profound.

What stands out to me is this:

👉 We talk about burnout.
👉 We talk about stress.
👉 But we rarely talk about sleep as a clinical and workplace issue.

From a healthcare perspective, insomnia is not something to “push through.”
It’s something to recognise, assess, and manage appropriately — whether through lifestyle, behavioural therapy, or pharmacological options when indicated.

From a workplace perspective, we need:
✔️ More awareness
✔️ More empathy
✔️ More flexibility

Because when sleep suffers… performance, wellbeing, and long-term health follow.

💭 My reflection:
Supporting women at work isn’t just about opportunities — it’s also about understanding the invisible challenges they carry.

Let’s start talking about sleep more openly.
