Lot 6006: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller: 1950s Autograph Album Signed by Marilyn Monroe Miller, Arthur Miller, and a few Hollywood and British and Film and Television Stars of the day - the album bound within brown suede covers lettered in gilt to front, contains numerous school friends and teachers signatures, as well as Arthur Miller (1915-2005) dedicated and Signed to a single page by the American playwright and actor, To Gillian and Graham, Arthur Miller (with three unrelated signatures on reverse); Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) dedicated and Signed by the Hollywood actress to the facing-page using her very recent married name, To Gillian & Graham, Love & Kisses Marilyn Monroe Miller (with an unrelated signature on reverse).
Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller were married on June 29, 1956 and flew to London in July 1956 where Marilyn was to begin filming The Prince and the Showgirl (1957) directed and co-starring Laurence Olivier.
During the 1940s and 1950s, amidst Cold War security fears, many foreign nationals (legally termed aliens) arriving in the United Kingdom were required to register with the Aliens Registration Office. This was a specialised department usually within a local police station where foreign nationals were issued with a registration certificate or aliens card, a requirement that applied to non-British citizens, aged 16 or over, who were staying in the country for more than a temporary period.
Provenance: Signed in person for the vendor's grandfather who was a serving police officer at Weybridge Police Station in Surrey in the 1950s.
