What would a potential client find if they looked you up today?

Most people do their own research before getting in touch with a law firm. They'll Google the firm, browse the website, check LinkedIn, or search for a particular service or lawyer – all before making any contact.

The real question is whether what they find gives them a reason to take the next step.

That's where we come in. We work with firms on everything that shapes their visibility, from website content and SEO through to social media and wider digital marketing, making sure the right people can find your firm and that what they discover reflects the business behind it. Because being good at what you do doesn't automatically make you visible to the people searching for it.

If you're not sure what a potential client would see if they looked your firm up today, it might be worth finding out – and we can help you do exactly that.

Leeds... The Professionals Network's coming to you!

Good professional networks are built around the right people, not the biggest room. That's the thinking behind The Professionals Network, and it's why we're bringing TPN to Leeds for the first time this September.

On Wednesday 23 September, senior professionals from across the city will come together at Gaucho, Park Row, for an afternoon of relaxed networking, conversation and relationship-building in a non-competitive environment. The aim is simple: to create a room where people can build genuine professional relationships, share knowledge and identify opportunities to work together.

The inaugural Leeds lunch is a chance to meet the people joining the group from the outset and become part of a network designed to grow through trusted connections.

If you're a senior professional looking to build your network in Leeds, we'd love to see you there.

Sabbatical update number three! 🌴

Lara Jane Squires has checked in from Spain, where she's just wrapped up her second retreat of the sabbatical at The Palms, her eighth visit in five years, so it's fair to say she knows a good recharge spot when she finds one.

Now almost seven weeks into the ten... no massive pearls of wisdom to share just yet, but something has shifted. For the first time, she's started thinking about work again; what it'll look like when she's back, and getting genuinely excited about what's coming up.

She's also admitted to a touch of nervousness! The team have been on their own for seven weeks... do they prefer it without her? Do they want her back?

What she's most curious about, though, is what everyone else has learned while she's been away – so much so that she's asked our non-exec director Tom for a full report before her return.
Next stop: a few days at home, then two weeks in Portugal before she's back.

Watch this space for the next update...

Legal is the best-performing sector in email marketing, and it's not close...

MailerLite's 2026 benchmarks show legal emails attract a 4.90% click rate, more than double the all-industry average.

Why? Because when someone signs up to hear from a law firm, they genuinely want the information. The firms that convert that interest into instructions are the ones sending something worth opening, at the right moment, consistently.

Will Gordon, our Senior Marketing Executive, has written a full guide covering how to build and segment your list, what to send, and how to automate it, including a ready-made four-email nurture sequence for a wills and probate enquiry that you can adapt for any practice area. He also covers the compliance side, with the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 changing parts of the GDPR and PECR regime firms have got used to.

Key takeaway: you own your email list. You don't own your LinkedIn followers, and you certainly don't own the AI search results your prospects start with...

Awards shouldn't be entered on a whim.

It's tempting to fire off entries for every shiny trophy going, but award submissions take time, resources and often a fee. If an award doesn't serve your firm's wider strategy, it's probably not worth entering at all.

The firms that get real value from awards season are the ones that treat it strategically. They pick awards that match what they want to be known for, study the criteria (sometimes a year in advance), and build a plan to squeeze every drop of value out of a shortlisting, whether they win or not.

In this article Gilbert, Associate Director & Head of Legal, shares how to approach awards season properly, including:

- How to choose the right awards for your firm's goals
- Her top 10 tips for writing a winning entry (authenticity beats AI-generated copy every time)
- How to turn a shortlisting into a full marketing campaign
- Why not winning is far from wasted effort

With more than 20 years in professional services marketing and a strong track record of getting legal clients shortlisted, Lou knows what judges actually look for.

How do you decide which lawyer takes on a new family law enquiry? For plenty of firms it comes down to who has capacity that week.

Alexandra Gray, Partner at Jones Nickolds Solicitors, takes a more deliberate approach, and she explained why when she joined Laura Hearn on the more than marketing podcast. Someone going through a separation is dealing with one of the hardest periods of their life, and the fit between that client and the person guiding them through it shapes the entire experience, so getting the match right matters as much as the advice that follows.

The same thinking runs through how the firm brings its people on. Jones Nickolds puts junior colleagues in client meetings early, on the basis that most of what makes a good family lawyer is picked up by watching someone do it well. Knowing when a client needs an answer within the hour and when they simply need a bit of space is not something a textbook teaches you.

Alex sees a place for AI too, while being clear that it won't replicate the empathy, judgement and steadiness that clients in crisis are really looking for.

Worth half an hour if you're thinking about how your firm handles client care, or how it develops junior talent.

Everything AI does well is process, and everything clients value most is personal.

That's the pattern that emerges when you sit down and honestly map out what AI should be doing in a professional services firm, and what it shouldn't go near.

The firms getting this right are using it to win back the hours lost to admin, so their people can spend more time on the conversations, judgement calls and relationships that win work in the first place.

Flood has put her thoughts into a new article: ten tasks worth handing over, ten worth holding onto, and why the difference matters more than the technology.

A few weeks ago we asked how human your law firm marketing really is.

Many firms have taken the scorecard so far, and the results are telling...

Most land somewhere in the middle: not robotic, not quite human-led either. Efficient, but a little impersonal... if you haven't taken it yet, it only takes a few minutes; and it might change how you think about your next campaign.

Two years ago, Lamb & Joynson didn't have a marketing department. We were it!

The Liverpool firm needed consistent, strategic marketing support but wasn't ready to make a full-time hire, so we came in as their outsourced marketing team. Over that period we built out their digital presence, got their people visible and confident on LinkedIn, and took on the award and directory submissions, which across three years came to 40 shortlists and 18 wins.

Then in July 2024 they hired their first in-house Marketing Executive, Clayton. We ran her through a bespoke two-day legal marketing crash course at our office, split responsibilities while she found her feet, and gradually moved into a mentoring and strategic role as she grew into the job. Martha has since taken on a marketing apprentice of her own.

Where the firm sits now: significant headcount growth, three new offices across the North West, more than 2,500 online reviews, and in 2025 its first ever Legal 500 ranking, with the criminal law team entering at Tier 3.

Leeman, Managing Partner, put it better than we could:

"Consortium never felt like an external agency, they felt like part of our firm. Their understanding of our culture, ambition and people meant the marketing always felt authentic."

We still work with Bell Lamb & Joynson today as a sounding board and specialist resource. Helping a firm build its own marketing capability, and staying useful to them once they have, is the part of this we're proudest of.
