At McKingtorch Africa, innovation meets sustainability.

We are currently roofing a 3-unit tourism space using roofing sheets produced from 1.4 million recycled pure water sachets recovered from the environment equivalent to over 3 tons of plastic waste diverted from pollution and given a second life.

The project is now 70% complete and already demonstrates outstanding insulation properties, even before ceiling installation. In addition, this initiative has helped divert approximately 4.6 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from landfills.

From waste to impact — transforming plastic into opportunity. ♻️📚

Throwing it back to one of our proudest innovations at McKingtorch Africa — the Plastic-to-School Desk Initiative — a solution born from two urgent challenges: plastic waste pollution and inadequate classroom furniture in Ghanaian schools.

So far, this innovation has recovered and recycled over 6 million plastic waste bags into durable school desks, improving learning environments while advancing circular economy solutions across communities.

Through the collective efforts of partners, schools, waste collectors, and community members, 12 schools across 4 Regions Ghana have received over 500 environmentally sustainable desks, giving hundreds of students a dignified space to learn, grow, and dream.

But the need remains significant. Many schools across the country still lack adequate furniture, while plastic waste continues to threaten our environment.

As we reflect on this journey, we are calling for renewed collaboration, strategic partnerships, and funding support to scale this impact reaching more underserved schools, creating green jobs, and turning even more waste into lasting educational infrastructure.

Recycled Pure Water Sachet Plastic Waste Roofing Tiles With Amazing Insulation Properties🥰

We have done Ghana Standards Authority and CSIR scientific analysis on my pure water sachet waste to roofing tiles innovation. We have built a cooling shed from it and the initial shed we did at our facility in Adenta showed one amazing benefit. It has an amazing insulation property and does not hold and transfer heat into the structure as people thought it would.

But in all these nothing beats a customer feedback. We have a couple building a tourism space at Shai Hills and they made a decision to use our roofing solutions as a first adopter of the solution and this week while’s we were engaging with them about the project they indicated that one of the rooms is done and they live in there and even though they have no ceiling covering the inside of the building is cool and does not get hot.

We am excited cos of the jobs we will create for women and youth and how much this means for the construction industry. The goal this year is to raise 1 million dollars to build a factory.

Makafui made the bold decision to step away from formal employment to fully pursue his mission in climate innovation. During this period, he navigated major surgery, family responsibilities, and the continued development and commercialization of our recycled plastic waste solutions. Through every challenge, his dedication to sustainable impact never wavered.

His thesis, “Evaluating Plastic Credit Mechanisms in Mitigating Plastic Pollution in Accra, Ghana,” aligns directly with our work and long-term vision, transforming plastic waste into opportunity and climate solutions.

Through this journey, he continues to push the boundaries of innovation to:
