Anti-Phishing Strategies Adopted by CBDT to Protect Tax Payers
The CBDT in its Press Release on the12/02/2016 “Steps taken by Income Tax Department for safeguarding taxpayers from Phishing email “ has come out with the Do’s and Don’ts to ensure that the gullible taxpayers do not inadvertently play into the hands of fraudsters and the same is clearly mentioned on the website: http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/Pages/report-phishing.aspx
All taxpayer reports of phishing emails are forwarded to [email protected] which is a Government of India agency mandated to fight against such threats. Digitization is gaining momentum in the functions of the Income Tax Department. Thus it’s a welcomed step taken by the Department to help the tax payers to be guarded against such threats.
The Income Tax Department NEVER asks for your PIN numbers, passwords or similar access information for credit cards, banks or other financial accounts through e-mail.
