Some films entertain.
Some films quietly rearrange the room.

Ladies First, newly dropped on Netflix, looks like a light comic satire. But stay with it, and it begins to do something more interesting. It makes the familiar feel strange. It makes the obvious look absurd. And it asks men to notice what we have often been trained not to see.

That is what good satire does. It does not preach. It flips the frame.

I wrote about why this film may be one of the more interesting mirrors placed before men, workplaces, and anyone who believes inclusion is not a slogan, but a daily behaviour.

Just how fast can you read? Try it..

Indulging a “900 words per minute” reading challenge is oddly humbling, even if I managed to do @900 wpm.

On the surface, it feels like a superpower: words flying by, your mind trying to keep pace, the thrill of almost catching meaning at speed. But a few seconds in, you notice something more interesting. What is being tested is not just reading, but processing under compression.

And that is a useful mirror for modern work.

We increasingly operate in RSVP mode, information delivered in rapid bursts: decks, feeds, dashboards, chats. We can recognise patterns quickly, but recognition is not the same as understanding. At high speed, the brain starts leaning on prediction, context, and “filling in the gaps.” That is impressive, and also risky. It is how we end up confident, but shallow. Fast, but not necessarily accurate.

For me, the value of this video is not whether we can hit 900 WPM. It is the question it raises:

Where in life do I need speed, and where do I need depth?

Speed is powerful for scanning, triaging, and building exposure to familiar material. Depth is essential for judgment, nuance, empathy, and decision-making, especially when stakes are real. Leadership, culture, and relationships rarely reward the fastest reader. They reward the clearest sense-maker.

Class Ceilings & Audacity of Ambition ~ reflections from my work with First Gen Leaders

Many first generation leaders carry an inner class ceiling that no policy ever wrote. They work hard, deliver consistently, and yet quietly edit down their own ambition when it comes to power, presence and the top chair.

Social mobility research repeatedly shows that individuals from advantaged backgrounds are significantly more likely to reach senior roles. In financial and professional services, people who start from a financially stable, professional background are roughly 40 to 45 percent more likely to progress to senior positions than peers from working class or intermediate backgrounds. Across professions, those from working class families who do break into professional roles still earn on average 12 to 17 percent less per year than colleagues from more privileged origins. The system is not neutral. Nor are the stories people from modest backgrounds carry about themselves.

In my latest piece, I explore these inner Scripts, the architecture of invisible ceilings, and why leadership work must also kindle what I call the audacity of ambition.

𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗱𝗼! There are moments in my work that remind me why I chose this path, and they tend to appear in the quiet space of a coaching conversation.

When leaders pause long enough to look inward, something shifts. What begins as a reflection often turns into clarity. A long-term career direction articulated with simplicity. A realisation about what truly energises them. A commitment voiced with conviction rather than hesitation.

These are not superficial conversations. They are honest, intentional, and sometimes disarmingly vulnerable. And there is a point every coach recognises, when the person across the table stops explaining and starts revealing. When insight emerges not from effort but from alignment.

That moment is the privilege of this craft.

I love what I do. Not because I think I do it exceptionally well, but because I get to witness leaders reconnect with their own sense of purpose. To see confidence return. To watch direction realign. To observe clarity surface in ways that feel authentic and self-driven.

Frameworks, reflections, and experiential journeys create the environment. But the real transformation happens in these human, intimate spaces where individuals rediscover who they are and where they want to move next.

Every time I see that unfold, it reinforces the simple truth that leadership is discovered, not delivered.
