oing outstanding research and education due to its strong R&D program, up-to-date educational curricula, modern laboratory infrastructure, highly qualified faculty, IPR & patents, and placements of graduates. The Department is actively involved in research by having the distinction of running externally funded R & D projects worth Rs. 25 crores from various Govt. of India agencies such as the Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science & Technology, DRDO, Ministry of Environment and Forest, ICMR, and industries. The Department has been recognized as a Center of Excellence for research in biosynthetic pathway discovery and genetic improvement of indigenous medicinal herbs by the DBT, Govt. The Department is recognized as the technical agency to implement the GOBARDHAN project by the Govt. of Himanchal Pradesh and Jharkhand (2018). Following are our major research thrusts:

🌱 World Environment Day 2026 Celebration – “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” 🌱
On the occasion of World Environment Day (5 June 2026), Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) organized a meaningful Tree Plantation Drive under the inspiring theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, promoting environmental conservation and paying tribute to the nurturing spirit of mothers.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. R. K. Sharma, Registrar Brig. (Retd.) R. K. Sharma, Dean (Academics) Prof. Sunil Kumar Khah, Dean (Student Welfare) Prof. Rakesh Kumar Bajaj, Associate Dean Prof. Tiratha Raj Singh, Head of the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Prof. Jata Shankar along with faculty members and staff of the university.
A total of 60 participants enthusiastically took part in the initiative, resulting in the plantation of around 30 saplings, reinforcing JUIT’s commitment to environmental sustainability and a greener future.
The event was successfully coordinated by Prof. Poonam Sharma and Dr. Ashok Kumar Nadda.

👨‍🔬 About Dr. Rajesh Kumar Verma
A Doctorate in Physics with over 23 years of experience in forensic laboratories, Dr. Verma has expertise in Physics, Fi****ms Examination, Audio-Video & Image Forensics, Crime Scene Investigation, and the application of Statistics in Forensic Science. He has supervised multidisciplinary forensic laboratories, trained forensic interns and police officers, and published several research papers in emerging areas of forensic science.
🎓 About the B.Sc. Forensic Science Programme at JUIT
JUIT launches 3-year and 4-year B.Sc. programmes in Forensic Science aligned with NEP 2020. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in biological, chemical, and physical sciences, followed by specialised forensic training with strong practical exposure and international best practices.

BTBI organizes Industry Interaction and GAT-B Award Ceremony

The Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Priyanka Priyadarsiny, Head, R&D – Biologicals, Panacea Biotec Ltd., New Delhi, on 8 May 2026. The visit focused on strengthening academia–industry collaboration, promoting research interaction, and providing students with valuable insights into industrial practices and career opportunities in biotechnology.

A key highlight of the visit was the Prize Distribution Ceremony for the JUIT GAT-B Mock Test – 2026 winners, conducted under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma. The mock test benefited 384 students from 12 colleges across Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Priyanka interacted with UG, PG, and PhD students, sharing valuable guidance on industry expectations, technical skills, and career development in biotechnology. She also visited research laboratories, conducted postgraduate viva voce examinations, and appreciated the ongoing research activities in the department.

The visit concluded with an engaging interaction session, reinforcing the importance of strong academia–industry partnerships in advancing research, innovation, and student development.
