What does it take to achieve SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All?

During his appearance on KBC Channel 1 TV Prime Edition, our Managing Director, Eng. Daniel Nganga, Chairman Emeritus of Water and Sanitation Providers Association-WASPA-Kenya and Male Champion for Women in Water & Sanitation Association Kenya, shared valuable insights on the progress being made towards universal access to safe water and sanitation.

Among the key highlights, he noted that Murang’a County is currently ahead in water coverage at 80%, with sanitation coverage standing at 40%. He reaffirmed the quality and safety of Murang’a’s water, emphasizing that it is safe for direct consumption from the tap.

He further highlighted MUWASCO’s inclusive approach to service delivery through pro-poor policies that help vulnerable households access water connections, supported in part by revenue generated through Fort Beverage Industries Ltd, producers of Fort Aqua and Murang’a Water bottled brands.

The discussion also touched on environmental sustainability, including ongoing efforts to protect water catchment areas through tree planting initiatives and plans to harness biogas from wastewater treatment processes as part of the transition towards greener and more sustainable utilities.

On the challenge of Non-Revenue Water, Eng. Ng’ang’a emphasized the need for technology-driven solutions, noting that MUWASCO is continuously investing in smart utility systems to improve efficiency, detect losses early, and enhance service delivery.
