In view of the surge in sexual and gender-based violence this year due to the COVID-19 lockdowns, we are carrying out this survey to see the extent to which harassment has extended to the workplace. The current COVID-19 outbreak has provoked social stigma and discriminatory behaviours against people of certain ethnic backgrounds as well as anyone perceived to have been in contact with the virus. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought swift and staggering changes to various workplaces.
We believe strongly in the power of evidence and data to help government and organizations make culture and policy change. Please substitute 'Organisation/at work' with wherever you work or study whether it is inside or outside the home. Likewise for superiors /management /HR, use closest applicable role in your context.
The purpose of this nationwide survey is to provide insight into the extent of harassment and discrimination in our workplaces, institutions and businesses in Nigeria. The findings will be shared widely with employer and employee groups, and other institutions in the public and private sectors as well as with policy makers.
We need to better understand how prevalent different types of harassment & discrimination are in the workplace, the role of colleagues, and the responsibilities of management/employers to enable and act on complaints. There is also need to break the huge culture of silence around sexual harassment and establish what 'consent' looks like in our Nigerian context. Providing the data as evidence is a necessary first step in building a comprehensive harassment & discrimination prevention program in your place of work or study.
The participation of as many people as possible in this survey will help us detect patterns and identify intervention areas & strategies. You can respond on your phone, your tablet or your laptop. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please share it widely.
Thank you
