Last week Dr. Heinz Lubenau, CEO NEC Bio Therapeutics GmbH, was invited to the 2nd Personalized Cancer Vaccine Summit in Boston. He presented the results from our AI-powered salmonella based oral personalized cancer vaccine program, NECVAX-NEO1, currently in the clinic.

Our Martin Min, Machine Learning Department Head and our former Machine Learning intern, Zhenqiao Song, Carnegie Mellon University, will present PPDiff: Diffusing in Hybrid Sequence-Structure Space for Protein-Protein Complex Design at the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2025) in Vancouver.

is a new AI model that designs high-affinity protein binders for virtually any target protein, reducing the need for time-consuming lab experiments. By combining advanced techniques to understand both sequence and 3D structure, PPDiff significantly outperforms existing methods in designing mini-binders and antibodies, offering a powerful tool for biomedical research and drug development. Other authors include Lei Li, Carnegie Mellon University and Tianxiao Li, NEC Labs America.

先日、東京で に関するメディア勉強会を開催しました。医療・製薬業界を担当する30名以上の記者の方々にご参加いただき、NECの研究開発の取組みについて直接ご紹介する貴重な機会となりました。
当日は、 #がん研究会有明病院　先端医療開発科部長の北野滋久先生をお招きし、進歩の著しい #がん免疫療法 について、また #個別化医療 の開発の一環としてNECも取り組む #ネオアンチゲンワクチン についてご講演いただきました。
さらに、NEC　AI創薬統括部長の北村哲、トランスレーショナルリサーチプロフェッショナルの小野口和英が登壇し、NECが #創薬 に を活用する背景や狙い、そしてAI創薬実用化に向けた歩みを紹介しました。
NECの北米研究所や欧州研究所、NEC Bioで培ったAI技術を創薬に応用することで、新しい医薬品開発の可能性を広げています。

Recently, we hosted a media seminar on AI drug development in Tokyo. More than 30 journalists covering the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries joined us, making it a valuable opportunity to share NEC’s research and development efforts.
We were honored to welcome Dr. Shigehisa Kitano, Director, Department of Advanced Medical Development at Cancer Institute Hospital of Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research, who gave an insightful talk on the remarkable progress in cancer immunotherapy as well as on personalized medicine initiatives such as neoantigen vaccines, an area where NEC is also actively engaged.
In addition, Akira Kitamura, Head of NEC AI Drug development, and Dr. Kazuhide Onoguchi from Translational Research shared NEC’s vision for applying AI to drug development and our journey toward practical implementation.
By leveraging AI technologies originally developed at our NEC Laboratories America and NEC Laboratories Europe and NEC Bio, NEC is driving innovation in drug development.
