“Why don’t they just leave?”

Because quitting a toxic job is a financial decision, not just an emotional one.

People have rent. Kids. Health insurance. Debt. Groceries. Aging parents. No savings.

Workers with money have something other workers don’t: the ability to walk away from abuse.

That means workplace abuse is also a class issue.

The less economic power you have, the more abuse you may be forced to tolerate.

And then we have the nerve to ask why people stay.

👀 Employers, a genuine question…

Do your managers know what to do when an employee says:

“I need to raise a concern.”

That first response can set the tone for everything that follows.

You don’t need to have all the answers immediately.

But knowing what to do next matters.

💰 Pay day question…

If you notice you’ve been underpaid, don’t just assume payroll will eventually pick it up.

Raise it.

Keep a record of your hours and payslips.

Most payroll mistakes are fixable, but they’re much easier to sort when they’re identified early.

Sometimes it genuinely is a quick chat.

Sometimes it’s about something more serious.

If you’re unsure what a meeting is about, there’s nothing wrong with asking beforehand.

Knowing the purpose of a meeting can help you prepare properly.

It depends.

Employers generally can’t just make significant changes to an employee’s role, hours or terms of employment without following the appropriate process.

A conversation needs to happen.

The details matter.

And every situation is different.

Have you ever been asked to sign something at work and felt like you had to sign it immediately?

Before signing, it’s okay to take the time you reasonably need to understand what you’re being asked to agree to.

Especially if the document could affect your employment.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Sometimes you just need someone independent to look over a situation.

“Am I handling this correctly?”

“Is this process fair?”

“What should I do next?”

Those are good questions to ask before making a decision.
