🎄Cheers to a Smarter Year Ahead 🎄💚

As we head into Christmas and the end of the working season for many businesses, we just want to say a huge thank you to our customers, councils, partners, and communities—and an even bigger shout-out to our Smart Environmental Ltd (Smart Group) teams across the country who’ve kept things moving day in, day out.

This year we’ve made strong progress on our Toitū journey, keeping the focus on measuring, improving, and reducing our environmental impact—with more to come. And just as importantly, it’s been great to see our Gallup engagement survey results improve year-on-year, reflecting the effort teams have put into building a stronger, safer, more supportive workplace.

While our customers are recharging over the holiday break, we begin our busiest period and are ready to hit the ground running into the New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Smart Environmental Ltd. ✨

🚛⭐ Five Stars for Our Drivers! ⭐🚛

At Smart Environmental, safety is more than a priority—it’s a way of driving.
Over the past months, many of our drivers have earned 5-star ratings through EROAD, reflecting outstanding care, smooth driving, and a commitment to keeping our communities safe.

With the school holidays in full swing, we’re especially proud of their focus on safe driving around busy roads, playgrounds, and crossings. Every careful stop and cautious turn helps protect our tamariki and keep everyone moving safely.

👏 A big thank you to our team for setting the standard—on the roads and in our communities.

🌿 Proud to Play Our Part 🌿

At Smart Environmental, we’re proud to be part of the collection and recovery network that helps power New Zealand’s world-class kerbside glass recycling system.

👏 Congratulations to Visy for hitting a major milestone in 2024 — achieving an average of 70% recycled content in their locally made glass bottles and jars! This is circular economy in action — turning yesterday’s empties into tomorrow’s packaging, right here in Aotearoa.

Every glass bottle placed in the recycling bin matters. Thanks to dedicated councils, residents, and partners across the supply chain, we’re keeping valuable materials out of landfill and reducing emissions — one bottle at a time.

♻️ When collection, processing, and manufacturing align, the impact is clear: less waste, fewer emissions, and a more sustainable future.

🌌 Matariki – A Time to Reflect, Celebrate, and Look Forward 🌿

As Matariki rises, we join communities across Aotearoa in honouring this special time of remembrance, celebration, and renewal.

At Smart Environmental, we’re proud to support the people and places that make our country thrive. Matariki reminds us of the importance of caring for our land, our whānau, and our future – values that sit at the heart of what we do every day.

🌟 Let’s take a moment to look back, give thanks, and set our intentions for a brighter, more sustainable year ahead.

Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori. ✨

🌿Smart Environmental Marks Sustainability Milestone with Toitū CarbonReduce Certification

Smart Environmental is proud to announce the successful completion of the first year of certification under the Toitū Envirocare CarbonReduce program meeting ISO 14064, reinforcing our commitment to measurable, science-based climate action. As one of New Zealand’s leading waste and recycling service providers, we know that managing waste sustainably requires a commitment to reducing materials to landfill as well as contributing to Aotearoa’s carbon reduction targets. By partnering with Toitū Envirocare, we have taken an important step in measuring, managing, and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions across operations.

This independent third-party certification by Toitū Envirocare is an integral part of developing targeted carbon reduction plans aligned with NZ and global climate goals and committing to transparent reporting and continuous improvement.

“Sustainability is not a one-off achievement—it’s a journey. We are proud to be on this journey with Toitū, our clients, and our communities as we work towards meaningful carbon reductions in our operations,” says Todd McLeay, CEO.

We look forward to building on this progress in the coming years as we continue delivering smart, sustainable waste services for New Zealand Aotearoa.
