L.J. Hole & Associates

L.J. Hole & Associates Les is a New Zealander, experienced as a consultant in marketing, design, project analysis, project and general management, across a variety of industries.

His career initially moved through multi-national corporate ranks as production manager, into sales management, then marketing & general management. Les translated his early experience into some 12 years operating his own cadd equipped design & project management company operating nationally in the commercial development market, which met with considerable success over a wide range of projects & a

large variety of multi-national & governmental clients. Early sporting activities centred on competitive cycling & an Outward Bound winter training experience, which included tramping & climbing. This interest continued on his arrival in NZ in '66. Recent years have also seen Les become a successful swimmer, competing at local, regional & national levels in the Master (Veterans) Swimming program. His interest in youth training, developed from his own early experiences as a printing apprentice, has seen his implementation of successful cadet training schemes for many of the companies he has worked with. This interest continued with his heading the Rotary and NZ Police (Upper Hutt) Blue Light Project for the training & development of senior student leaders, utilising the facilities & expertise of the Outdoor Pursuits Centre, in Turangi. This project still continues on an annual basis. Les moved to Auckland with Tricia his wife of 34 years, in November 2001 with the objective of developing further business opportunities & recognising it was time for a change! They now spend any spare time visiting their three sons & families (of whom they are rightfully very proud) in various parts of NZ, combining family time with business development & the very real joy of traveling around our beautiful country.

🛡️ Swish Automation: Innovation in Action
Challenging Pool Barrier Myths with Proven Safety and Legislative Truth
In 2021, Swish Automation identified a troubling trend: 4% of Swish
pool project quotes received Requests for Further Information (RFIs) from Building Consent Authorities (BCAs). Often based on factually unsupported interpretations of the Building Act and Code. These RFIs typically reflected opinion rather than law, misguiding both homeowners and specifiers.
To counter this, Swish published the “Memo to the Pool Industry & Specifiers” on 19 August 2021, clarifying the legal framework and reinforcing the legitimacy of Swish’s child-safe pool access solutions. The result? RFIs dropped to just 1% of all quoted projects — A welcome & significant improvement.
Yet one persistent myth remains:
“Consent is based on fencing all four sides of the pool.”
This advice, often accepted without question by up to 70% of homeowners and their agents, which is not supported by pool compliance legislation.

âś… The Truth: A Legal Right to Choose
For over 20 successful years, Swish has replaced traditional fencing between house and pool with modified pool access doors — engineered to prevent pool access by children under six. These systems offer a reliable, child-safe alternative to fencing, and Swish proudly maintains a 100% safety record.

🎙️ Educating Through Innovation
To further support pool owners, Swish has launched an AI-powered podcast series, promoting the legal right for homeowners to choose a compliant pool barrier that suits the family's lifestyle. In collaboration with LJ Hole & Associates & Evangelize Consulting UK, Swish presents a documented, factual history of NZ pool compliance — in a clear, accessible audio format. These podcast bring to life, the definitive Swish Memo to the Pool Industry & Specifiers, in a practical Kiwi, plain speaking style.
This initiative challenges BCA-promoted myths and exposes the unsupported interpretations often presented as law during the consent process.

🏡 Empowering Pool Owners
By delivering the legislative truth about pool owner responsibilities under the Building Act and Code, Swish empowers every homeowner to create a safe, compliant PoolZone — without compromising on lifestyle opportunities allowed under legislation & code.
