🍓 Happy Midsummer!
It is, for me, the most important celebration of the year. No need to worry about anything, but the weather forecast and the supply of strawberries.
In Sweden, it’s all about a long summer day (and night), flower-crowned maypoles, silly games, singing and dancing, and the simple but perfect combination of pickled herring, new potatoes, and fresh strawberries.
But the part I look forward to most happens in the morning. I take an early walk to collect good material from the nature. Then I sit by myself and bind flower crowns for everyone who wants one, with a glass of champagne in hand. My daughters and their friends pick the wildflowers they want in their crowns. One by one, they take shape – before family and friends sit down for the traditional Midsummer lunch.
Everything comes together slowly, from that quiet morning ritual to a full table of celebration that lasts well into the evening and night.
And yes – there is always a crown for my dog Mio. 🌸
