Strong communities are built together! đź’™

Last weekend, more than 100 employee volunteers rolled up their sleeves for Wellness on Wheels, joined by their families and friends to distribute groceries and daily essentials to residents across Punggol. Applied Materials contributed approximately S$43,000 worth of groceries, helping to bring essential support to 600 residents through the initiative.

We were also honored to share the experience alongside Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Senior Minister of State Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State Sun Xueling, and Ms Yeo Wan Ling.

It was definitely a morning filled with helping hands, happy faces and a whole lot of community spirit.

What does an engineering career really look like beyond the job title?

Kee Kai Jun, Manufacturing Engineer and New College Graduate Ambassador at Applied Materials, headed back to his alma mater for NUS Awareness Day, where he shared how entering the semiconductor industry without prior experience and embracing unfamiliar challenges have shaped the engineer he is today.

Drawing from his journey into manufacturing and automation, Kai Jun also spoke about how AI is changing the role of engineers. As AI takes on more of the technical ex*****on, skills such as systems thinking, engineering judgement, communication and collaboration have become even more important than before.

His advice to students? Ask questions, communicate effectively, and stay curious and adaptable. The tools will change, but the ability to keep learning will stay valuable.

AI's next challenge isn't creating more intelligence. It is powering it efficiently.

As AI models become more capable, they demand greater computing power and energy. That growing demand is placing increasing pressure on the infrastructure needed to support AI at scale, making power one of the industry's biggest challenges.

Simply adding more energy is not a sustainable path forward. If we want to meet future AI demand and continue scaling, we will need innovations that deliver more performance while improving energy efficiency.

And that’s where the semiconductor ecosystem comes in. From materials engineering to manufacturing and advanced packaging, innovation across the industry is helping to make the next generation of AI possible.

The future of AI won't depend only on how intelligent models become. It will also depend on our ability to remove the bottlenecks standing in their way.

Over the National Day weekend, curious minds of all ages rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the world of semiconductor manufacturing at SG Science Fest.

At the Applied Materials booth, visitors created their own mini "wafer" and journeyed through three key steps inspired by real chipmaking processes: Deposit, Etch and Inspect. Along the way, they discovered the precision engineering behind the chips that power everything from smartphones and AI to the technologies we rely on every day.

Visitors also explored our semiconductor exhibit and Semicon 101 videos, taking a closer look at the science and engineering that make modern technology possible.

You do not need to have your whole career mapped out before applying for an internship. 🙌

For Rachel, an R&D internship with Applied Materials became a chance to move beyond the classroom, work alongside engineers, and be part of a team advancing technologies that shape the world.

When Rachel returned as a Process Engineer at Applied, she brought back not only an understanding of how an R&D team works, but also the confidence fostered by Applied’s supportive culture and people to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and constantly learn.

Her advice to students considering an internship?

“Keep an open mind and have the courage to apply. You never really know what you enjoy until you are immersed in it.”

Creating an inclusive workplace means supporting our people through every stage of life.

Last week, Applied CARES brought Applied Materials' employees together for a workshop on sustainable caregiving and dementia awareness, gaining deeper insights into the experiences of those living with dementia and the realities faced by caregivers.

By encouraging open conversations, we hope to build greater understanding, strengthen support networks, and foster a culture where employees feel cared for both inside and outside the workplace.
