Technológie, sociálne siete a AI sú dnes prirodzenou súčasťou života detí. Nový sprievodca UNESCO Growing Up in a Connected World prináša rodičom praktické rady, ako chrániť deti v online priestore bez toho, aby technológie jednoducho zakazovali.
Hlavná myšlienka: Samotné pravidlá nestačia. Deti potrebujú otvorený rozhovor, dôveru a dobrý príklad zo strany dospelých.
Dôležité je rozvíjať kritické myslenie. Deti by sa mali naučiť pýtať: Kto túto informáciu vytvoril?
Je dôveryhodná? Dá sa overiť?

GROWING UP IN A CONNECTED WORLD: WHAT FAMILIES NEED TO KNOW
Digital technologies are now woven into almost every part of family life. Children use screens to learn, play, communicate and stay informed, while social media and artificial intelligence are becoming part of their everyday environment at increasingly young ages. UNESCO’s new practical guide, Growing Up in a Connected World: A Family Guide for the Digital Age, responds to a challenge many parents share: how to protect children online without simply banning technology.
Developed with 37 experts worldwide, the guide focuses on practical media and information literacy for families. It covers screen time, social media, algorithms, generative AI, disinformation, cyberbullying, online safety, parental controls and the first smartphone.
One of its strongest messages is that rules alone are not enough. Children need adults who talk with them, help them question what they see, and model the digital habits they expect from others. Families are encouraged to create clear routines around screens, protect time for sleep, movement and face-to-face interaction, choose age-appropriate content and make space for shared digital experiences.
Critical thinking is just as important as technical safety. Children should learn to ask who created information, what evidence supports it and whether it can be verified elsewhere. The same applies to generative AI: its answers may sound convincing while still being wrong, and personal information should not be shared casually with AI systems.
PERHAPS THE MOST USEFUL IDEA IS ALSO THE SIMPLEST: THE GOAL IS NOT PERFECT CONTROL, BUT INFORMED DIGITAL AUTONOMY. TRUST, DIALOGUE AND EXAMPLE HELP CHILDREN GRADUALLY LEARN TO MAKE SAFER AND MORE RESPONSIBLE CHOICES FOR THEMSELVES.
For parents, educators and anyone working with young people, the guide is a timely reminder that growing up online is not something children should have to learn alone.
