Meet Reese Shell, our Operations Lead at The 808 Ranch! 🤠

Reese is a Bentonville High School grad who's spent his career running equipment, maintaining property, and working across farms and construction sites — building a skill set that's made for a place like this. Animal science and construction coursework in high school lit the spark, and years of hands-on work in the field turned it into something real.

Ranching was always a passion, not a given. Reese didn't grow up in it — but he chased it, got his feet wet before The 808, and when this opportunity came along, he jumped at it. He'll tell you himself: he never thought something like this was possible this close to home.

Now he's here keeping the equipment running, moving cattle, hauling what needs hauled, and making sure the whole operation stays on track. Honestly? The 808 runs on Reese.

Outside the ranch, you'll find him hunting, fishing, or spending time with family and friends.

Since Lamar and Shari Steiger founded the operation in 2020, The 808 Ranch has grown into a multi-location cattle operation stretching from northwest Arkansas into southwest Missouri, with its headquarters nestled along the Elk River in Anderson, Mo.

What the photos capture goes beyond scenery. They reflect a commitment to responsible land stewardship, low-stress cattle handling, and a clear vision for what quality-focused ranching looks like in practice.

Some things come full circle.

This week, Lamar heads to Hulett, Wyoming, for the 2026 Elite Rancher Forum at The Golf Club at Devil's Tower — and this trip carries a little extra meaning for our family.

Lamar Steiger grew up on the JH Ranch in the very Northeast corner of Wyoming. From that ranch, you could see Devil's Tower on the horizon. 📸 The photo shared here was captured by Lamar's mother, Mary Pat Steiger, circa 1956.

Now, decades later, Lamar will be presenting on Ranch2Retail alongside some of the best minds in the cattle industry. All within sight of that same landmark.

Sam is at the Beef Leaders Institute this week — June 14–19!

BLI has been developing the next generation of Angus industry leaders since 2008. The program is designed for producers 25–45 and covers everything from industry insight to Association leadership. Backed by the American Angus Association and Certified Angus Beef ® brand, it's a week well spent.

Five Barn Owlets🦉 needed a new home after a recent remodel, and it took a team to make it happen.

Our electrician, Chris Arnold, connected us with Missouri Department of Conservation agent Jerid Wilkinson from Newton County to make sure the transition was done right.

Nolan Holtmeyer, Reese Shell and Emersyn Jordon traded calf duty for owlet duty for the afternoon, and the lift from the remodel came in handy for the rescue.

All five owlets and their mother are now settled into the hay barn at The 808 Prairie and back on rodent patrol.

Rancher to consumer. It sounds simple, but Lamar Steiger has spent years learning exactly how hard that gap is to close.

We don't take it for granted when someone takes the time to come out and see what we're doing here at The 808 Ranch on the Elk.

Last Friday, Whitney Elizabeth Shannon of Farm Press and Chris Six of Missouri Ruralist did exactly that — and it meant a lot. Whitney promises more stories are on the way. Stay tuned.
