Now Streaming: The Miracle Strip – A Story of Longacres Racetrack
The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association is proud to have supported this incredible documentary, now available to watch FREE on YouTube.
For nearly sixty years, Longacres Race Track was Seattle's best-kept secret — a one-mile oval tucked into the farmland of Renton, Washington, where the fastest horses in America ran against a backdrop of Mount Rainier.
It began as the dream of one man - Joe Gottstein - a real estate mogul, a gambler and a visionary who in 1933 — at the bottom of the Great Depression — leased the Nelsen farm and built a world-class racetrack in 28 days. Longacres would become a Pacific Northwest institution, producing world records, legendary jockeys, and a community of horsemen and fans who called it home for generations.
The Miracle Strip: A Story of Longacres Race Track tells the full story — from the track's roots in Seattle's earliest horse racing history through its golden postwar era, its battles with politicians and floods and its final season in 1992, when the horses ran for the last time.
Interviews include: Johnny Longden, Basil Frazier, Gary Henson, Gary Stevens, Gary Baze, Jim Craswell, Carl Baze, Leona Leonard, Glen Williams, Noble Threewitt, Bobby Dean, Lindy Aliment, Jack McCann, Slade Gorton, Bob Schwarzmann, Vaden Ashby
