Manufacturing Your Future on June 2 had a lot of memorable moments. One that stood out was the presentation of the Jack Healy Innovation Award.

MassMEP honored John Berg of Carpe Diem Technologies in Franklin with the award, and it's a recognition that reflects years of real, sustained commitment to the Massachusetts manufacturing community.

John served two terms on the MassMEP Board of Directors, including two years as Board Chair. Under his leadership, Carpe Diem Technologies secured a $2.1 million M2I2 grant to develop advanced nanoimprinted microstructures right here in the Commonwealth. And the work continues: his team is currently bringing AI and NVIDIA edge-computing to the shop floor for real-time quality control.

The Jack Healy Award recognizes the kind of dedication that moves the entire manufacturing ecosystem forward, practical, bold, and built for the long term. John Berg has been doing that work for years.

The recognition was also a fitting moment within a larger milestone: Manufacturing Your Future marked MassMEP's 30 years of service to the Commonwealth. Quite a room to be in.

MassMEP and MIT are back tomorrow for Session 3 of the Practical Guide to Additive Manufacturing webinar series.

This session, "Money Talks: Building a Business Case for AM," focuses on the economic side of additive manufacturing: how to evaluate what it actually costs to print, how to think through make vs. buy decisions, and how to build an internal case that gets the right people on board.

Two experts from MIT's Center for Advanced Production Technologies are leading it. Haden Quinlan has co-led MIT's additive manufacturing training since 2018, with clients including Boeing, Ford, and the DoD. Mandana Moshiri led metal additive R&D at LEGO Group from 2019 to 2025 before joining MIT's team earlier this year.
