Excellent selection of a vintage sextant, a perfect unique item for any nautical collector.

✨ A sextant is a precision navigational instrument used to measure the altitude (or angle) of a celestial body (sun, moon, stars) above the horizon by measuring the angle at a specific time, a navigator can determine their latitude and longitude.
✨ The modern sextant was developed around 1731 and evolved from earlier, less accurate tools like the astrolabe, quadrant, and octant. Naturally in today’s day and age GPS has replaced it for daily use; a sextant remains a required backup for professional mariners as it is immune to electronic failure.

Painting “Dalagang Bukid” Fernando Amorsolo

Lot 302 in June 16th Auction

Excellent selection of a vintage oil painting, great for articulate home display. The piece appears to be by artist Fernando Amorsolo, who often featured paintings of the “Dalagang Bukid” or “Country Maiden”. Serving as his quintessential muse, the country maiden figure was often set in traditional dress and almost always carrying a basket of native fruits like mangos. This direct portrait features the country maiden meeting someone at their door with a basket full of fruit. Fernando Amorsolo (1892-1972) was a legendary Filipino painter who was named the first ever “National Artist of the Philippines.” His work is defined by his mastery of light, creating a glow around his subjects amongst the rural Philippine countryside. Painting is in great displayed form, only with a small bit of surface wear. Signed in the bottom right corner “Amorsolo” as well as “Manila” and the year “1935”. Set within a frame, overall picture measures 22” H x 16.5” W.
