CryoConcepts and Tri-City Marble have received state loans through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) to purchase equipment and property that will strengthen their operations and accommodate growth.

PIDA offers low-interest loans through certified economic development corporations to businesses for land and building acquisition, construction and renovations, and equipment purchases that result in the creation or preservation of jobs.

PIDA is one of several financing programs LVEDC administers to assist businesses with growth and expansion.

Today, Nokia announced a $30 million expansion in semiconductor production in the Lehigh Valley that is expected to create 242 jobs, further strengthening a regional technology sector whose innovations helped usher the world into the modern electronics era more than 75 years ago.

The investment positions the Lehigh Valley to play an even larger role in Nokia's $4 billion U.S. research & development manufacturing strategy.

Lehigh Valley is known for making the things that helped build America, like steel and concrete, but did you know that the components for the first iPhone, Bluetooth, even USBs also have roots in the Lehigh Valley? Transistors, the forerunner of semiconductors, were first mass produced in Allentown at Western Electric, a division of Bell Labs, in 1951.

"Long before smartphones, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, the technological revolution began with a transistor produced in the Lehigh Valley. Seventy-five years later, Lehigh Valley remains at the forefront of innovation, with companies developing and manufacturing the semiconductor technologies that power the modern world,” said Kristin Cahayla-Hoffman, Vice President of Business Development & Attraction at LVEDC.

D. Gillette Industrial Services in Forks Township is ramping up its workforce to meet increasing demand to manufacture products that are improving safety and efficiency for the nation’s armed forces. The company specializes in the design, fabrication, repair, and assembly of parts and equipment for the lifecycle sustainment of military customers’ assets, the federal government, and worldwide commercial and foreign military clients.

The company, which is looking to increase its team this summer, received a visit from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recently, with officials promoting the agency’s Made In America Manufacturing Initiative and connecting with small businesses that have used its programs to grow their capabilities.

In 2016, D. Gillette Industrial Services became one of the few women-owned manufacturing companies certified in the 8(a) program offered by the SBA to prepare small businesses to compete for federal government contracts.

Much of the technology that’s driving commerce and making lives more fun and efficient in 2026 has roots in the Lehigh Valley. It all started 75 years ago on a production line in Allentown when the world’s first mass production of transistors, the forerunner of semiconductors, occurred in 1951 at Western Electric, a division of Bell Labs.

Today, Lehigh Valley continues to be a hub of technological innovation, fueled by talent that was drawn here by Western Electric and its successors.

More than 1,100 people are employed at 35 Lehigh Valley semiconductor and related technology businesses, including global brands Broadcom, Cisco, Coherent, Intel, and Nokia (previously Infinera), and smaller companies such as AAYUNA and iDEAL Semiconductor.

Pet food manufacturer Spot & Tango is investing more than $20 million to expand its Lehigh Valley operations, adding 70,000-90,000 square feet and creating approximately 50 new jobs. Since choosing the Lehigh Valley in 2022, the company has continued to grow in a region that is home to 35% of Pennsylvania's pet food manufacturing jobs. Now, that's something to wag about.
