Do you know an Elder who would make a meaningful impact on Native students at MSU Billings?

The Native American Achievement Center is seeking nominations and interested Elders for our Elder-in-Residence Program.

Our Elder-in-Residence Program brings cultural teachings, stories, traditions, language, and intergenerational connection to campus. Elders help create a sense of belonging, support Native student well-being, and strengthen student success through meaningful time with students, staff, faculty, and the community.

We are seeking Elders who may be interested in:
- Sharing cultural knowledge, history, traditions, or language
- Leading a workshop, conversation circle, or classroom visit
- Spending informal time with students at the NAAC
- Joining meals, student events, and campus conversations

Selected Elders receive:
- $1,700 honorarium
- Mileage reimbursement
- Meals
- On-campus lodging
- Support with transportation and scheduling

Elders typically arrive on Sunday evening and depart around noon on Friday.

Available Fall 2026 residency weeks
- October 19–24
- November 2–6
- November 30–December 4

We are also beginning to plan for Spring 2027, with opportunities anticipated in February and March.

The FBI is launching a new program to solve cold cases impacting tribal nations, including missing and murdered Indigenous persons cases.

From the article: One cold case on the FBI's list is the murder of 31-year-old Jacob Jeffrey Hunter. The FBI said he was killed in the East Barton's area of Red Lake on Oct. 7, 2020. A reward for information on his case is set at $5,000.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Since founding the Montana Domestic Violence Railroad, I have had the privilege of assisting more than 100 victims and survivors throughout Montana and beyond. While social media only shows a small part of what we do, there is so much happening behind the scenes. My inbox stays full, my phone rings daily, and every message represents someone looking for hope, safety, or simply someone to believe them.

Talk is easy. Action is what creates change.

From day one, I promised that this organization would be about action, advocacy, and making a difference—not just raising awareness. Since our launch, I have met with local leaders and officials to discuss ways we can improve how domestic violence is addressed in our communities. Over the next few weeks, I will continue meeting with multiple state leaders, including elected officials and individuals running for office, to advocate for meaningful change. Tomorrow morning, I am honored to meet with Senator Lenz as we continue these important conversations.

This movement is bigger than one person or one organization. It takes an entire community working together.

If you have resources that could help a victim or survivor, please reach out. Whether it’s an extra bedroom, temporary housing for a pet, food, clothing, transportation, counseling services, financial assistance, or even something as simple as buying someone a cup of coffee or helping cover the cost of a mental health appointment—every act of kindness matters.

Together, we can build a stronger network of support for survivors across Montana. Thank you to everyone who has stood beside us, believed in this mission, and continues to help us make a difference.

Because no survivor should have to walk this journey alone.
