NFA UPDATE ON TARIFFS BELOW:
NFA Tariff & Trade Update – December 2, 2025
Dear NFA & APA Members,
The American fireworks industry is facing a critical moment. Current tariff uncertainty threatens the ability of our members to import fireworks and puts community and individual celebrations nationwide—including the 250th anniversary of the United States—at risk. Your voice is essential to ensure fireworks remain available and affordable for all communities.
Key Updates
• Last week, the NFA/APA tariff team engaged directly with an Administration contact and submitted an updated letter to President Trump outlining our concerns and requesting an immediate roll back of the current tariffs on fireworks and components. Click here to read the letter to Ambassador Greer.
• In late July, NFA and APA representatives met with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and submitted a formal proposal with HTS codes supporting a reduction of fireworks tariffs to a flat rate of 10%. With the 40+ day government shutdown, no action was taken but the Administration has recently granted relief for agriculture commodities and certain groceries.
• The current tariff, while reduced, on imported consumer and display fireworks from China (1.4G = 25.3%) (1.3G = 22.4%) is not sustainable.
• NFA’s lobbying team attended the Supreme Court hearing on November 5th to gain additional insights into the Administration’s defense of the tariffs and the context and effectiveness of the legal arguments in opposition.
• Uncertainty over tariffs and shipping constraints is already causing import delays and threatening supply for display and consumer fireworks, particularly in smaller towns and rural communities.
How You Can Help
We strongly urge all members to participate in this grassroots effort immediately:
1. Contact Your Legislators — Reach out to local, state, and federal representatives to explain how tariffs and trade uncertainty impact your business and community. A template letter is provided for your convenience.
2. Use Social Media — Share your support using and to amplify our collective voice.
3. Share Your Letters & Responses — Forward copies to the NFA/APA office; so we can compile and share them with legislative champions in Washington, D.C. to further support your direct submission and our goals.
4. Engage via Voter Voice — Use the Voter Voice platform linked on both APA & NFA websites to contact policymakers directly with a few clicks.
5. Encourage Participation — Ask employees, customers, and community supporters to join the effort and share their stories.
Why It Matters
Fireworks are a cornerstone of American tradition, bringing families and communities together each summer throughout the year, especially during July 4th and the New Year. Without tariff relief and clear guidance, many small towns could see cancellations of community displays, and hundreds of small, family-owned businesses face significant economic strain.
Your action now is crucial to preserving the industry, supporting local communities, and ensuring America celebrates its 250th anniversary with fireworks lighting up every corner of the nation.
Thank you for standing with us. Together, we can ensure fireworks continue to bring joy, pride, and celebration to families across the United States.
With appreciation,
Stacy Schneitter-Blake, President, NFA Julie L Heckman, Executive Director, APA
