👀 ICYMI…

We’re co-hosting an intriguing new recombinant protein webinar with Cell & Gene Therapy Review on Wednesday, September 23 at 11am ET/8am PT/5pm CEST.

💭 You may be thinking, “I’m already getting 'ok' or 'good enough' performance and recovery results in my cell culture workflow. Why should I consider other options?”

Dave Briner, our Senior Product Manager of Cell Culture, and Liz Stewart, PhD, Senior Product Manager of Qkine, will share some eye opening factors to consider with cytokine and growth factor choice.

Common issues:

❌ Inconsistencies from batch-to-batch
❌ Reproducibility difficulties when scaling-up
❌ Cost fluctuations
❌ Lower than desired or expected bioactivity, performance, and recovery
❌ Lack of GMP and regulatory-ready documentation

Dave and Liz will also expand on how closed-system containers and processes may streamline scale-up and reduce reliance on cleanrooms.

How can you improve your cell culture workflow and reduce lot-to-lot variability?

By choosing starting materials like recombinant proteins that have higher reproducibility, tighter quality control, are animal origin-free, carrier-free, and regulatory-ready. ✅

In a new webinar with Cell & Gene Therapy Review, Liz Stewart Stewart of Qkine and Dave Briner of BioLife Solutions will guide you through what is essential when choosing a cytokine or growth factor type; and why closed-systems and closed packaging are important to consider to reduce contamination risks, decrease costs, and improve manufacturing consistency. 🔄

As we wrapped up The Cell Summit ’26 forum in partnership with Cincinnati Children's Hospital, a few unplanned topics arose and took an interesting turn.

🎙️ Attendees and speakers both spoke about how cell & gene therapy and biopharma industries need to do a better job of education, perception, and communication with the public.

🧠 These topics are very important in today’s climate of misinformation and a greater distrust in public health. Getting non-scientific individuals and families to understand the importance of biology and biologics in their everyday lives and on a larger, big-picture scale is paramount.

🤝 When the public is empowered with key knowledge of advanced therapies, they could become our biggest advocates for the industry-wide goals of expanding access and coverage, and instilling a deeper understanding of the scientific benefits for developers, regulators, and patients.

BioProcess International summarized this impromptu discussion here:

🚨 FINAL CALL🚨

Sign up for this CAR-T/TCR Workflow webinar with Cell & Gene happening on Tuesday, August 25 at 11am EDT!

Overview:
🔬 The webinar focuses on improving the robustness, consistency, and scalability of autologous CAR-T/TCR manufacturing when using cryopreserved leukopaks as starting material. CARR Biosystems and BioLife Solutions will present a systematic evaluation of an end-to-end workflow, examining key steps such as washing, buffer exchange, cryopreservation, thawing, and final formulation.

Key Takeaways:
🔑 Hear a practical framework for defining operating ranges, reducing process variability, and developing scalable, closed-system manufacturing workflows.

How can the cell and gene therapy industry better balance the high manufacturing costs of advanced therapy products, while also demonstrating clinically meaningful benefits, creating a profit, and meeting the needs of rare disease populations?

At our recent Cell Summit ’26 forum, Ralph Brandenberger, Head of CMC at Dark Horse Consulting Group Inc. suggested that early planning, aligning expectations, and creating a TPP (target product profile) can greatly increase the likelihood of clinical and commercial success, while also balancing the requirements listed above. ⚖️✔️

The two biggest categories that gets challenged by regulators are analytical methods and CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, Controls) issues. Brandenberger explores key questions that will better prepare therapy companies for regulatory reviews and ultimately successful commercialization. 🔑

The Cell Summit ’26 forum we co-hosted with Children’s Hospital on July 28-29 was recently covered by BioProcess International.

News Editor Josh Abbott shared highlights from speaker Tracy Gramer, Associate Director at CTI Clinical Trial & Consulting. Gramer spoke about the evolution of scaling clinical trials for cell and gene therapies, which includes where we stand today - in the “Emerging Access Era” of where capabilities need to be moved, not patients, to increase access. ⤴️

This type of strategy starts with evaluating hospitals and deciding which can be made therapy-ready to meet country-specific regulatory requirements. 🔓

Gramer also shared a case study involving Cincinnati Children’s and a young boy, Sriansh Ojha, with a rare genetic disorder called AADC deficiency, who was treated successfully in a clinical trial with a gene therapy that went on to become the now FDA-approved therapy, KEBILIDI™. 🧬
