What a night! 🎬🐋

Our team was honored to bring the Chicago premiere of Whalefall to life at the Regal Theater. We transformed the lobby into an underwater escape, complete with ocean-blue lighting and one very large guest of honor. 🌊

Thanks to everyone who came out and dove in with us! Planning an event that needs a "wow" moment? We'd love to help: www.avproductions.com 💙

Two photos, same room. In the top one, road cases are open and the crew has its back to the camera. In the bottom one, an audience is facing the stage and nobody is thinking about road cases.

That is how it should be. The compliment a production crew hopes for is an audience that never wonders how the room came together.

Planners and venue teams: do you ever stop to grab the before shot?

An awards night is the one show where the stars have never done this before. They did not rehearse. They do not know their mark. Some of them did not expect to be up there at all.

That is the fun of it, and the reason the production around them has to be ready for anything: the long speech, the short speech, the winner who brings the whole table up with them.

What is the most memorable unscripted moment you have seen at an awards program?

Not every meeting fills a ballroom. But the same design strategy that goes into a general session can be scaled to a smaller room.

What would you change about the last small meeting room you walked into?

Holiday party planning usually starts in October. The calendar starts filling in August.

The first weekends of December go first, then the Fridays around them. What is still open by November tends to be a weeknight and a shorter list of choices.

Have you locked your date yet, or still weighing options?

Some rooms are too good to light flat.

This one has plaster arches, a vaulted ceiling, and detail that most events end up hiding behind drape. Mapping video to those surfaces keeps the architecture in the show, so the walls move with the program instead of sitting dark behind it.

What room have you walked into and thought it deserved more than a wash of color?

An LED wall does more than hold a slide deck.

The panels are modular, so the surface gets sized and curved to the room instead of the room working around a screen. Brightness holds with the house lights at working levels. Presenters can stand right against it and stay lit.

And it keeps earning its place all day. Ambient visuals during registration, brand and sponsor content through the meal, live camera feed for the awards.

What would you run on a wall like this during the stretches of your agenda that usually sit dark?

Ten minutes before doors, and the room is already doing its job.

Blue wash around the perimeter to frame the space. Green texture down the center to anchor the stage. Two screens matched so nobody at the back tables has to squint through the opening remarks.

Most of that work happened hours earlier, while the tables were still being set.

What color story do you keep coming back to for a general session?
