“So… why is there $75,000 sitting in your checking account?”

I've had versions of this conversation more than once.

And usually the answer isn't:

“After carefully evaluating my financial strategy, I determined this was optimal.”

It's:

“Honestly? I just never did anything with it.”

And that's understandable.

Cash can serve an important purpose.

Bills, emergencies, upcoming purchases and short-term needs all matter.

But there's a difference between keeping cash for a reason and keeping cash because you haven't made a decision yet.

Sometimes financial planning starts with a very simple question:

What is this money actually for?

Once you know that, you can start thinking about where it belongs.

You had another baby. Mazel Tov!

New stroller. ✓

Car seat. ✓

Diapers. Lots of diapers. ✓

Life insurance review?

“Yeah… I have to get to that.”

😄

Having a child can change a lot more than your sleep schedule.

Your expenses may change.

Your goals may change.

Your responsibilities definitely change.

And the financial decisions you made when it was just the two of you may deserve another look.

You don't necessarily need to change anything.

But major life events are a pretty good reminder to review what you already have.

“I’m good. I have disability insurance through work.”

Great.

My next question is usually:

“Do you know what it actually covers?”

That’s often where the conversation gets quiet.

And I get it.

Most of us don't spend Saturday night reading our employee benefits booklet.

But if your family depends on your income, it may be worth understanding things like:

How much of your income could be covered?

How long could benefits last?

What are the limitations?

Would changing jobs affect your coverage?

Employer-provided benefits can be valuable.

The point isn't to assume they're inadequate.

The point is to actually know what you have.

You know that financial thing you’ve been meaning to take care of for the last 6 months?

Yeah, that one.

Maybe it’s finally reviewing your life insurance.

Increasing coverage since having another child.

Actually looking at your retirement accounts.

Getting your estate documents organized.

Or figuring out what to do with cash that’s been sitting around.

We’re all busy.

And financial planning has an interesting problem:

The important stuff rarely screams for your attention.

The broken washing machine does.

The dentist appointment does.

The 47 unread WhatsApps definitely do.

Your financial plan?

It quietly waits.

So here’s my question:

What’s the one financial thing you keep saying, “I really need to take care of that”?

Maybe this is the week you finally do.

The irony for many high earners isn't that they've ignored their finances—it's that they've been meticulous about everything except the source.
The investments are diversified. The estate plan is drafted. The insurance covers the house, the car, the valuables. But if their income stopped because of a covered disability event, how long would any of it hold?
That's the question many financial plans do not ask. It's worth finding out whether yours has an answer.
Schedule a quick income protection review to see where your plan stands.

Most business owners have a plan for what happens when equipment fails or inventory runs short. Few have a plan for what happens when they can't earn an income.
The clients, the revenue, the decisions that keep everything moving—none of it runs without you. Losing your income is an exposure many balance sheets never account for.
I help business owners protect what matters most with the right disability coverage. Let's connect.

For some people, the appeal of retiring abroad lies in the ability to live well for less than it would cost in the U.S. Adventure, lower costs, potentially lower healthcare costs and a richer life can all be yours overseas — but you have to nail the practical details first.

No one can predict exactly what long-term care needs may look like later in life. This article examines how the likelihood, duration, and level of an extended care need can vary, and what those differences may mean for individuals and their families.

One of the quietest turning points in life happened at a kitchen table.

A friend said they finally understood life insurance when they stopped seeing it as paperwork and started seeing it as part of their story.

That stuck with me because most people are not looking for another product, they are looking for peace of mind that fits real life.

The best life insurance with a story is not dramatic, it is personal and steady. It is about protecting the people and plans that matter if life takes an unexpected turn.

Sometimes the smartest move is simply giving your future a little more support today. That is a story worth telling.
