Brookside members, along with Engine 2, participated in a standby assignment with the Morris County Task Force on 5/6/26 into Thursday morning, 5/7/26 in Belleville (Essex County) while suppression efforts continued on a major fire that began Sunday.

Stationed at Belleville Fire Headquarters from 8:00pm–9:00am, our members responded to three calls for service and were proud to work alongside the Denville Fire Department, Lake Hiawatha Fire Department, and our Regional Fire Coordinator.

At the same time, 13 additional Brookside members remained in town to cover our local response area and answered a gas leak call Wednesday evening.

We stand ready to assist whenever and wherever needed and are always grateful for the opportunity to support the greater community when called upon. Thank you to our residents and families for their continued support of our operations. 🚒

On Monday, May 4th, the Mendham Township Fire Department - both Brookside and Ralston Engine Companies - were invited by our friends at the Basking Ridge Fire Company to participate in a live acquired structure training alongside Liberty Corner Fire Company and the Lyons VA Fire Department. Twenty members of our department attended the drill.

The Mendham Township First Aid Squad also participated, providing firefighter rehabilitation and support services throughout the training. Special thanks to their members for supporting our efforts each and every day.

Members rotated through several hands-on skills stations focused on fire attack, ventilation, roof operations, firefighter safety, and survival. Instructors from Basking Ridge FC, Liberty Corner FC, and the Lyons VA Fire Department were on hand to share their expertise, demonstrate new techniques, and provide valuable training to our members.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Chief Doug Gazzale and the members of Basking Ridge Fire Company #1 for the invitation and for the continued mutual aid partnership that helps strengthen and protect all of our communities. We also want to thank Chief Gazzale, Assistant Chief Bill Ludlow of Liberty Corner FC, and the Lyons VA FD instructors for sharing their time and knowledge with us. Opportunities like this allow our members to sharpen their skills, learn new techniques, and continue improving our operations.

Interested in serving your community in a meaningful way? We are always looking for new members. Visit www.bec1.org to learn more.

In the early morning of February 8th, Mendham Township FD was requested to respond to assist Bernardsville while they operated at a commercial structure fire.

BEC was requested for one engine to provide regional coverage at Station 22.

REC was requested for the tender as a part of the tender taskforce.

Mendham Township Units on the assignment:

Brookside Chief 1, Chief 4, and Engine 3

Ralston Chief 2 and Tender 12

All Mendham Township units were back in town just before 5 am.

The frigid weather made firefighting conditions all the more challenging but we commend the Bernardsville Fire Co and those who responded for their resilience in extinguishing this fire.

Happy Birthday, Brookside Engine Company No. 1! 🚒🎉

Tonight marks the 110th anniversary of the first official meeting of the Brookside Fire Department - now proudly known as Brookside Engine Company No. 1.

That historic meeting followed an earlier gathering on January 16, 1916, when residents determined there was a clear need for a fire department to serve the Brookside area of Mendham Township. At the official meeting, officers were elected and 20 original charter members were present, laying the foundation for more than a century of dedicated service to our community.

Thank you to the generations of volunteers who have answered the call and kept Brookside safe for 110 years - and counting.

Members of the Mendham Township FD participated in an ice rescue refresher drill this morning. The department is fortunate to have a majority of our members in both companies certified as technicians to be able to provide this service to our community. Please stay vigilant while on ice surfaces if skating or the like and remind yourself that if it doesn’t look safe, to stay off the ice!

The holidays were busy — and a lot of fun — around the firehouse. 🚒 🎄 🕎

Our members had a great time hosting Santa, participating in Netcong’s Holiday Parade, and taking part in events throughout town, including Mendham Chester Chabad Menorah lighting.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year! Most importantly, thank you to our families for their constant support - we couldn’t do this without you.

Looking forward to continuing our service to the great residents of Mendham Township in the year ahead!

We are very proud of our members who graduated Firefighter I and Firefighter II from the Morris County Fire Academy this past Thursday.

FF1 and FF2 take real commitment - long nights, hard work, and showing up even when it’s not easy. These members put in the time and earned it. 💪

Congrats to Firefighters Cerdas, Crescentini, D’Armiento, Saito, and Smith for graduating FF1 this past year and Firefighters Clark and Raitt-Forrest for graduating FF2! 🚒

Firefighter Gaston will be starting FF1 in Spring 2026.
