Recently one of my clients had a bad experience with hiring someone to clean their air BNB out of my service area. This post is meant to bring awareness to who you hire.
10 cleaning business red flags🚩
- An owner/operator should be present for each clean to ensure things are done properly. Background checks are necessary for both parties (Owner, employees & potential clients).
- Self promotion isn't always bad but referrals should come from work related references. Calling their references to confirm their work ethic is a MUST! They should have at least 3-6.
- Always ask them for pictures of work they have done. One can't tell how hard you work by pictures of already clean spaces, or AI flyers.
- Charging an hourly rate is crazy. Always ask for a break down of how they came up with their price. If they can't provide that, they are just charging you what they want.
- Not coming equipped with products and tools. It is not the home owner's responsibility to provide these things.
- Cleaners that use Dawn dish soap, Fabuloso, bleach, vinegar and oil based cleaners have no idea what they're doing to your surfaces long term. There is a science behind every product, they should be knowledgeable in what they use.
- Cleaners that say they scrub carpets or clean windows without professional grade equipment and products.. RUN!
- Over advertising availability.. red flag!
- A cleaning business that is always hiring is a huge indication that you will not have stability with your cleans.
- Cleaners that combine all of their employees cleaning experience as a total number of years in the field is extremely misleading!
