Congratulations!!!🎉

Offering mobile repair service for diesel trucks and equipment in Tazewell County, VA, is what sets Walker’s Xplicit Diesel LLC apart from other repair shops, according to owner, Joshua Walker. From cars and trucks to farm equipment, Walker offers repair service that comes to his clients.

Walker’s Xplicit Diesel LLC is a recent recipient of a $10,000 Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) Seed Capital Matching Grant. Seed capital grants are funded from regional funds received by VCEDA which are paid by the natural gas industry.

Our VCEDA Project Review Committee met earlier this week with 19 applicants seeking seed capital funding. We had the opportunity to learn more about their new businesses, which included those in the fields of manufacturing, tourism, energy, information technology and construction-related trades. Awards for the spring funding round will be decided during VCEDA's next meeting, June 18.

We’re especially proud of our SBDC clients who received funding — our SBDC Director was on hand for the pitches and is excited to see these businesses thrive. Supporting entrepreneurs from idea to ex*****on is at the heart of what we do, and it’s rewarding to see their hard work turn into real momentum for our local economy.

Big things are happening in Dickenson County 👏

After six weeks of hard work through the Avante Business Curriculum with Opportunity SWVA leading the helm, 10 local Founders took the stage to pitch their businesses as part of our Community Business Launch program, and every single one of them walked away with support to move their ideas forward.

From agriculture and retail to childcare, food, and service-based businesses, this group represents exactly what we talk about when we say we are building our economy from within.

🏆 Top Winners:

🥇 Turkey Feather Farm– Rebecca Kilgore ($16,000)
🥈 Revibe Resale Boutique – Heather Rose & Jade Simpson ($9,000)
🥉 Little Notions Quilt Shop – Stephanie Little ($6,000)

In addition to our top winners, several entrepreneurs were awarded funding and incubator space at the Dickenson Center for Education and Research (DCER) to continue growing their businesses right here at home.

This program was made possible through partnerships with Opportunity Southwest Virginia, Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission, and Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority.

This program is more than about start-ups. It is about investing in people, filling gaps in our community, and creating opportunity that lasts. Small incremental wins are wins that keep us moving forward.

We are proud of every Founder who stepped up, took a chance, and showed what’s possible in Dickenson County! ❤️
