Cousins...Most people want elevation, very few want the process that leads to it.

Here’s the deal: you don’t rise by luck. You rise by learning and process.

Every jump you admire in someone’s life, career wins, business breakthroughs, destiny pivots, family, was paid for in the currency of intentional learning and process.

The issue isn’t that you’re not capable.
The issue is you’re trying to skip the 'classroom' of process, hoping for a shortcut.
But there are no cheat codes for destiny.

I’m privileged that my work extends beyond running a business to also serving as an accounting professor at Regent University. Working with both clients and students gives me a unique perspective, one that constantly reminds me:
To lead and to advance in destiny, career, and business, you must consistently pay the price of learning something.

That price isn’t just time it’s humility, discipline, and focus.

What have you committed to learning this month? This year?
Not scrolling, not “motivational noise” but focused, disciplined learning that stretches your mindset and sharpens your edge.

Because growth doesn’t feel good at first.
It feels inconvenient.
It feels like slowing down when you want to run.
It feels like sacrifice.

But if you don’t pay the price to learn, you’ll keep paying the price of being stuck.

So if you’re tired of plateauing...
📌 Learn something that threatens your current limits.
📌 Practice until it rewires your default settings.
📌 Show up daily, hungry, humble, and committed.

Every next level requires a new lesson.
Don’t wish for the leap. Train for it.
You’re not far. You’re just one decision of discipline away.

Cousins...To truly be a builder and a leader, one hard truth you must accept is that no one is coming to save you. It's all on you.

Is it good to ask for help? Yes. Is it good to have people who can support you? Yes.

But no one will help or support someone who is just sitting and waiting for help or support.
That is why I said no one is coming to save you.

Many people will not step in to save you, but they will happily step in to contribute to the moves you are already making.

Every builder, every leader, every person who is building an incredible life, career and or business had to face this uncomfortable moment: “If I don’t move, nothing moves.”

I’ve asked this to many clients, high achievers and first-starters alike:
“What move would you make if you truly believed it’s on you?”

That question changes everything.
It shifts you from hoping to building.
From waiting for a break… to creating one.

Because here’s what no one tells you: People don’t rescue the passive people.
But they will invest in the one who is already rising. Who is making moves as if no one is there to help them.

So go ahead, build the thing.
Send the pitch, write the business plan, pray and move.

If you keep waiting for help, you will end up very disappointed about life. Take action as if help isn’t coming.
But everything you need? It’s already inside you.

Start and let others meet you on the way.

Cousins...When I sit with business owners or salary earners during tax consultations, I often ask one question that gets straight to their core:

"Are you doing what's necessary to build the life you really want?"

One of the hard truth's I have had to tell more than a few of my clients during tax strategy sessions is this;

"Quick wins are exciting, until they sabotage the life you actually want."

One sign of maturity in this journey of life is doing things from the right perspective not based on...

What is trendy.
What get's you applause.
What gives you short-term gains with long-term regrets.

We all crave comfort. That is our nature as human beings. And shortcuts feel like relief, until they rob you of what really matters: Purpose. Peace. Long-term power and success.

You want a good life? Career? Business?

It's built on intentional, sometimes boring and often invisible choices.

The kind of choices no one claps for now...but everyone respects later.

Ask yourself the following:
- Is this habit building or breaking my future?
- Is this decision rooted in pressure or purpose?
- Will this shortcut cost me more in 5 years than it gives me today?

You don’t build a powerful life by chance.
You build it by doing what’s necessary, not just what’s convenient.

Discipline may not feel good today, but trust me, regret feels worse.

Cousins...One of the most common misunderstandings I encounter during tax season is the belief that if a W-2 is not there, the income somehow disappears from the tax return.

(Welcome to my current series: Post-Tax Season Reset: 13 Money Moves Smart Taxpayers Make - Ep 13)

That is not true, your income does not disappear...let me explain.

If you worked and earned wages during the year, that income generally must be reported whether or not the W-2 made its way to your mailbox. The absence of the form does not eliminate the reporting obligation.

When a W-2 is missing, the first step is to contact the employer. In many cases, the issue is simply an incorrect address, a mailing delay, or an administrative oversight. Keep a record of your communication and your efforts to obtain the document. Good documentation is always a wise habit.

If the form still does not come, do not assume you have run out of options. Your pay stubs can provide valuable information about your earnings and tax withholding. You may also be able to access wage and income transcripts through the IRS, which can help verify information reported by your employer.

What concerns me most is when taxpayers ignore the situation entirely. Months later, they receive notices because income reported by an employer does not match what was reported on their return. What could have been handled proactively becomes a stressful and avoidable problem.

Tax compliance is not about perfection. It is about making a good-faith effort to report your income accurately and resolve issues when they arise. When something is missing, the answer is not to ignore it. The answer is to address it properly and document the steps you take along the way.

If you earned the income, report the income. It is always better to handle the matter correctly from the beginning than to spend time correcting it later.

Cousins...an S Corp can be a useful tax strategy, but it is not a universal solution the way some people talk about it.
(Welcome to my current series: Post-Tax Season Reset: 13 Money Moves Smart Taxpayers Make - Ep 12)

Social media has made it sound as though every business owner should immediately become an S Corp.

That is not responsible advice. The right structure depends on your income, business model, profit level, administrative capacity, long-term goals, and willingness to follow the rules that come with the election.

Yes, an S Corp may offer tax advantages in the right situation. But those advantages come with responsibility.

You may need to run payroll, pay yourself reasonable compensation, file the proper business return, meet deadlines, maintain clean books, and stay compliant with federal and state requirements.

That is where some business owners get into trouble. They rush into an S Corp because they heard it could save money, but they are not prepared for the discipline it requires.

Poor bookkeeping, missed payroll filings, late returns, and inconsistent records can quickly turn a good strategy into an expensive problem.

A tax structure should support the business you actually have, not the business someone online assumed you had.

Before choosing an S Corp, sit down with a qualified professional and look at the numbers.

Ask whether the potential savings outweigh the added cost and administrative burden.
Ask whether your profit level justifies it.
Ask whether you are ready to operate with the structure, recordkeeping, and compliance the election requires.

Strategy is not copying trends, strategy is making the right decision for your specific situation.

If you do not have a good CPA you are working with, contact us at The ARK NPS 📞 (757) 977-8911.
We would be glad to help you review your options carefully and choose a structure that fits your business with wisdom and clarity.

Cousins who are business owners, your records matter more than many people realize.
(Welcome to my current series: Post-Tax Season Reset: 13 Money Moves Smart Taxpayers Make - Ep 11)

A bank statement may show that money left your account, but it does not always prove what was purchased, why it was purchased, or whether the expense was truly business-related.

That distinction matters, especially when questions arise later.

Receipts provide detail. They show the vendor, date, amount, items or services purchased, and sometimes the business purpose. That kind of documentation can make the difference between a deduction that is well-supported and one that becomes difficult to defend.

Too many business owners work hard, spend wisely, and still put themselves at risk because their recordkeeping is too casual.

They assume the transaction appearing on the bank statement is enough. In many situations, it is not. If an auditor asks for proof, the burden is on you to show that the expense was legitimate.

This is not about fear, it is about protection.

Documentation gives your CPA a stronger foundation to prepare your return accurately. It helps you claim what you are entitled to claim without guessing. It also helps you avoid the stress of trying to reconstruct business expenses months or years later.

Create a simple system, save digital copies. Take photos of paper receipts. Use folders, bookkeeping software, or an organized cloud storage method. The system does not have to be complicated, but it must be consistent.

If you cannot prove it, you may not be able to claim it.

Do not let poor documentation weaken a legitimate deduction. Your receipts are not clutter, they are part of your financial defense.

If you do not have a good CPA you are working with, contact us at The ARK NPS 📞 (757) 977-8911. We would be glad to help you stay organized, prepared, and protected.

Cousins...there is a difference between wise tax planning and dishonest tax filing.
(Welcome to my current series: Post-Tax Season Reset: 13 Money Moves Smart Taxpayers Make - Ep 10)

Wise tax planning uses the law correctly. It keeps good records, claims legitimate deductions, reports income accurately, and makes informed decisions before deadlines arrive.

Fraud does the opposite. It inflates numbers, hides income, creates false expenses, or claims credits a taxpayer is not entitled to receive.

That is not strategy, that is exposure to what is capable of destroying you.

I say this with love because some people are tempted by the promise of a bigger refund.

Someone may tell them, “Everybody does it,” or “The IRS will not notice.”

Please do not build your financial life on that kind of advice. A refund gained through false information can become much more expensive later.

The IRS can assess penalties and interest when returns are inaccurate. A questionable return can also lead to notices, audits, delayed refunds, amended filings, and unnecessary legal or financial stress. Even when a preparer files the return, the taxpayer is still responsible for what is submitted in their name.

That is why you must review your return before it is filed.

Ask questions, make sure the numbers are true. Do not sign anything you do not understand. Do not allow anyone to add deductions, dependents, business losses, charitable gifts, or credits that cannot be supported.

Integrity may feel slower, but it is safer. Shortcuts may look profitable for a moment, but they can cost your peace, your money, and your credibility.

Do it right the first time, keep clean records. Work with professionals who value accuracy over empty promises.

If you do not have a good CPA you are working with, contact us at The ARK NPS 📞 (757) 977-8911. We would be glad to help you file with clarity, confidence, and integrity.
