🧠 Injectable “terahertz liquid network” proposed as a wireless brain-computer interface
A minireview published Oct. 5 in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Nanoscale Advances proposes a “terahertz liquid network” brain-computer interface, in which injectable plasmonic nanoparticles would float freely as passive relay nodes instead of rigid implanted electrode arrays. The authors (Chenyan Zhou, Xinran Ding, Zhengyang Xu, Xuanhao Gu and Jiamin Zhao) argue the design could get around the trade-off between bandwidth, heat (staying under a 1 °C tissue-warming limit) and biocompatibility, using terahertz scattering, photoacoustic conversion and passive backscatter for terabit-per-second readout, and tuned terahertz energy for non-thermal neuromodulation. It is a design proposal in a review article, not a tested device.
