Day one at the Hamilton County Home Show is in the books, and what a day! ☀️ Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Volunteer Solar booth to talk solar, battery backup, and taking control of your power bill.

If you missed us today, you've got another shot. We're back tomorrow (Saturday) from 10 AM to 5 PM at Camp Jordan Arena in East Ridge, and admission is FREE.

Come see us and bring your questions:

What would solar actually save at my house?

Can batteries keep my lights on when the grid goes down?

Does off-grid make sense for my property?

While you're there, make a day of it. The show is packed with local contractors, live demos, show-only deals, and giveaways all weekend. Everything for your home under one roof.

📍 Camp Jordan Arena, 323 Camp Jordan Pkwy, East Ridge, TN
🕙 Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM | Sunday 11 AM – 4 PM
🎟️ Free admission

See you tomorrow!

Storms rolling across Tennessee tonight.

If your power goes out, here's what actually matters in the first 4 hours:

Keep the fridge and freezer shut. A full freezer holds temp about 48 hours unopened. Open it every 20 minutes and you're down to a few.

Don't run a generator in a garage, on a porch, or anywhere near a window. Every year people survive the storm and don't survive the generator.

Stay away from downed lines. Assume every one of them is live.

Report your outage — utilities dispatch off reported counts, not off the storm.

Stay safe out there Tennessee. We'll be checking in tomorrow.

A question we get a lot after days like today: "If I had solar, would my lights have stayed on?"
Straight answer: not by itself. Standard grid-tied solar shuts off during an outage — that's a safety requirement so linemen aren't working on a line your roof is backfeeding. It's not a flaw, it's code.
What does keep your lights on is solar paired with a battery. The battery islands your house off the grid, runs your critical loads — fridge, well pump, a few circuits, medical equipment — and the panels recharge it the next day. No fuel runs, no generator to start, nothing to maintain.
We're a Cleveland company, not some out-of-state crew. If you want to know what it'd take to keep your house running through the next major storm, give us a call at 423-650-0637

Off-grid doesn't mean off the map. It means on your own terms. ⚡
No power bill. No outages. No waiting on the utility to run lines to your property (which can cost $17K–$50K+ per mile, by the way).
But here's what most homesteaders learn the hard way: an off-grid system is only as reliable as the person who designed it. DIY kits look cheap until you're undersized in January, your batteries are cooked in two years, or your insurance won't touch a claim.
When Volunteer Solar builds your system, you get:
🔧 A system sized for YOUR actual loads — well pump, freezers, shop tools, all of it
🔋 Professional-grade batteries and inverters, installed to code and built to last decades
📋 Licensed, insured work that protects your investment (and your insurability)
📞 A local team that answers the phone when you have a question — not a shipping warehouse
Cabins, workshops, hunting camps, or full on homestead — if the grid doesn't reach it, we do.

Big News for Cleveland, TN! 🔋

When utility companies start investing heavily in large-scale battery infrastructure to manage peak demand, it sends a clear message: Electricity are rising for everyone (including the utility company) and energy storage is the answer.

What This Means for Homeowners 👇
If the grid is moving toward battery power to optimize efficiency, it's the perfect reminder of what that same technology can do for your own home. Bringing battery storage to your property completely changes the game:

True Self-Sufficiency: Instead of being entirely dependent on the grid, pairing solar panels with home battery storage allows you to capture, store, and control your own clean power.

The Path to Off-Grid Living: Whether you want a rock-solid backup system to keep the lights on during a storm, or you dream of cutting ties with the traditional grid entirely, home batteries make off-grid living a reality.

Smart Protection: Just like the utility company looking to pull from batteries instead of buying expensive peak power, a home battery protects you from rising rates and grid instability.
At Volunteer Solar, we don't just sell solar systems. We help you take control of your power, secure your home's future, and achieve ultimate energy independence. ☀️✨

New construction + solar from day one = the smartest move a homeowner can make. ☀️

When you build solar into the plan from the start, you’re locking in lower energy costs before you ever flip the first light switch. No retrofitting. No added hassle. Just clean power built right into your home.

This is what we do at Volunteer Solar — show up, get it done right, and help Tennessee families take control of their energy bills.

One of the most powerful parts of a home battery system is the visibility it gives homeowners into their energy.

This interface shows exactly what’s happening in real time:
• The home is consuming 4.7 kW
• The solar system is producing 9.9 kW
• 5.2 kW is being exported back to the grid

Meanwhile the battery system is sitting at 99% capacity, ready to provide backup power if needed.

When the system is in self-consumption mode, the goal is simple: use as much of your own solar energy as possible before relying on the grid. Instead of sending excess power away during the day and buying electricity back later, the battery stores that extra energy so it can power the home after the sun goes down.

Modern energy systems aren’t just about producing electricity — they’re about giving homeowners control over how and when their energy is used.

Another ground-mounted solar system completed this week.

Producing electricity at home means relying less on the grid and having greater control over energy costs. For many homeowners, solar is about more than savings — it’s about energy independence.
