South Carolina’s capital city is a community of explosive growth, and people are excited about the opportunities in the city and see its potential, says Columba Mayor Daniel Rickenmann.

The city has changed significantly since Rickenmann became part of city government in 2004 with his election to City Council and election to his first term as mayor in 2021. “I believe Columbia was Eeyore (the pessimistic, gloomy donkey from "Winnie the Pooh") for a long time. We doubted ourselves, right?”

Columbia residents would frequently say we're two hours from the beach, and we're two hours from the mountains, he pointed out. “Well, yes, we are. That's an asset. That's not who we are. We are not a suitcase community.“

Prisma Health announced an agreement to acquire 36 urgent care locations in South Carolina (formerly Doctor's Care) from Novant Health, expanding access to convenient care for communities across the state. The acquisition includes approximately 500 team members. Following the close, expected Nov. 1, 2026, the centers will operate under Prisma Health Urgent Care.

“Access to timely, high-quality care is essential to the health of our communities," said Dr. Jonathan Gleason, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for Prisma Health. “Adding these clinics to our network expands access to Prisma Health’s scope of services across South Carolina and strengthens the connection between convenient, same-day care and our broad network of providers, specialists and hospitals.”
