Make Me Laugh

Laughter, which is the productive result of humor, is the universal language. It is something that every culture or social class enjoys – there has never been (and likely never will be) someone who does not embrace a good chuckle.

While today’s “politically correct” environment necessitates that you be careful with when and how you employ humor, this does not mean that you need to abandon it altogether.

Take the time and be open to finding good-natured humor to share – even if only off the cuff comments and one-liners. Do this and others will want to associate with you.

How Does Small Talk Create Networking Bonds?

Have you ever met someone who launched right into a sales pitch? “Who does your printing? Are you happy? I can do better!” How did that make you feel?

By starting with small talk, people gain an understanding of who you are, what interests you, and how you spend your time. And you learn the same about them.

Small talk is like the warm up before the work out. It is the foundation of the KNOW in Know, Like & Trust. Through this foundation people gain a sense of whether they LIKE you. In fact, studies have shown that in just a few minutes of chitchat, people start to decide whether or not they TRUST you, too.

Constant Character

Renowned author and speaker John C. Maxwell says, “When we are winning nothing hurts; when we are losing everything hurts.” So true! When things are going well you can overlook a lot but when you are down every irritation is a gigantic annoyance.

As accurate as Maxwell is, this does not mean you need to accept it. It is only natural to experience disappointment and frustration with your setbacks and shortcomings but nothing is stopping you from working through the effects of this discontentment so that it will not affect those around you.

Any network is more respectful of someone that can be of the same relative character in conflict as in calm.
