What kind of work makes sense in a time of endings?

Starting on the 7th April AT WORK IN THE RUINS will be exploring how we work in endings and what kind of hosting is needed in these times - based on the four tasks that Dougald Hine points to in his book of the same title:
- SALVAGING: What have we learned about collaboration and working together that we can lean on now and bring forward?
- MOURNING: What do we need to leave behind?
- DISCERNING: What are the stories that were never as good as we told ourselves and what becomes possible when we let go of these?
- WEAVING: Notice dropped threads that may be picked up again. Thinking about collaboration what are the forgotten skills, overlooked wisdoms, practices that once fell out of fashion, but now glimmer with relevance?

Over five weekly sessions we will explore these topics deeply. On the final session we will be joined by Douglas Hine to receive our harvest and tell us where this work has evolved in him since writing his first book.
We are carrying these questions:

• What have we learned about collaboration, hosting a co-creation that we can carry forward?
• What do we need to let go of?
• What kind of hosting is needed in these times?

A powerful question can open the doorway to a fresh perspective or a new way of looking at things. It surfaces assumptions. It stimulates new thinking and invites creativity. It can change EVERYTHING.

It also helps you to take the next step.

A question can help surface stories holding the wisdom we need now for better ways of living and working together. It can spark the conversations we most need to have. It is an immediate and simple intervention into any system.

Working with powerful questions is both a leadership and a life skill. The capacity to hold space for the bigger question is what we now need in turbulent times.

OIN US FOR A JOURNEY THROUGH THE RUINS

In a time of endings and unraveling of the stories we have been immersed in all our lives, what is possible? What have we learned about collaboration and what is the hosting needed now? What are the tasks we can do to build good ruins - individually and collectively?

Dougald Hine’s book At Work in the Ruins offers four useful tasks for these times: salvaging, mourning, discerning, weaving.
Beehive Productions, together with the Rotterdam Change Days offer a five week online journey to take up these four tasks together — and to hold each other as we allow, explore and express.

We will travel as a cohort, taking strength from each other and tending the fire between us. We may be facing a ruins, but we need not do so alone.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF US NOW?

ESPECIALLY AS PEOPLE WHO HAVE WORKED AS CHANGEMAKERS AND WHO HOLD SPACES FOR PEOPLE TO MAKE GOOD CHANGE TOGETHER, WHAT CAN WE LEARN TOGETHER FROM THESE TIMES?

• Dates are April 7, 14, 21, 28 & May 6
• Over the first four sessions, we will explore the tasks in the ruins: Salvaging, Mourning, Discerning & Weaving.
• And in session 5, Dougald Hine will join us and reflect with us, as he is in the midst of writing his second book. We are inspired and grateful for Dougald continuing to offer his work and walk alongside us.
