In “What Florida Can Teach and Learn,” in the 1920s John Nolen called Florida “the great national laboratory for town and city building.” We still are. At APA Florida this Wednesday 10/14, Victor Brandon Dover will join Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Dana Little and Juan Mullerat to look back on “Florida, the Cradle of the New Urbanism.”

The Miami Loop, conceived by Maricé Chael back in 2015, will be a linked trail system comprised of the Underline, Miami River Greenway, the future Perimeter Trail, and the Ludlam Trail—to create a 24+ mile “loop” encompassing the heart of Miami. A larger pattern of "loops within loops" will also integrate other trails in Miami-Dade County such as the Commodore Trail, Rickenbacker Shoreline, and the Baywalk. An outer "super loop" will link Old Cutler Trail, Snapper Creek Greenway, South Dade Trail, Black Creek Trail, Krome Trail, and others. On October 10, 2026, an eventful meeting at Miami-Dade College Wolfson Campus was hosted by Commissioner Ralph Rosado, where the Miami Loop debuted with County commissioners, mayors, city commissioners, and over a hundred advocates.
