With fall comes the cooler, damp weather that allows for agriculture burning. Slash and burn is the method used to get rid of cut vegetation that has dried and been prepared to be set on fire. Seedlings later are planted in the in the ash-enriched soil. It is a long-used practice that continues today. Pictured are T.J. We were lucky enough to tag along with a science research crew doing an occupancy survey for our native amphibians.

Species such as the Pacific giant salamander, Dunn's salamander, torrent salamander and the coastal tailed frog were found in the clear, cold streams.

Not your typical log truck load, but our loggers will still load your trailer with precision and perfection.

Thanks to Roy at Ramco Logging for setting aside small poles, which will soon frame overnight adventure shelters for Outdoor School. We're proud to see locally grown and harvested wood put to work supporting outdoor education in our community.

Gary Blanchard and Bruce Starker surveying property circa 1973. Blanchard has worked for Starker Forests for nearly 65 years. Although semi-retired, he still comes into the office an hour or so every day as he works on projects. He is the first non-family employee of Starker Forests.
