The Fire and EMS classes have transitioned, and we have just finished Week #2 of Fire Recruit Training!

We are back in business with CFD, and we are very optimistic about working together, and providing the best training environment possible for our recruits. Capt. Biles and Capt. Rollins will serve as lead instructors for this course, with Capt. Myers assisting in both this program, and working to provide great training/testing opportunities for our online members.

The new class has already completed their Hazmat Awareness and Operations training/testing, ropes and knots, chapters 1,3, and 6, and have started gear acclimation training. We have many exciting weeks ahead, and would love to see everyone continue to help our recruits excel. We are very thankful for the continued support in developing our recruits!

The 26-02 recruits successfully completed their 24-hour crucible and the firefighter ruck this week. During our 24-hour crucible, the recruits were dispatched to each of the following call natures from 0930-0600:
Residential structure fires (5)
Commercial fire alarm (2)
Residential fire alarm turned into a kitchen fire (extinguished by water can) (1)
Utility problem (1)
Assist invalid (1)
MVC w/entrapment (1)
Cardiac Arrest (2)
Vehicle Fire (1)
Emergency De-con (1)
Total calls: 15

They also performed different tasks throughout the day to simulate station life including:
Friendly Firefighter/Station Tour
Water Can Training (PowerPoint and Practical)
Station Duties
Truck Day (wash all training apparatuses)
Dinner together as a crew
The training division is extremely proud of all of our recruits for their perseverance through a tough 24-hour shift. We want to personally thank all of the on shift and off shift personnel that committed their time to our program over the last 13 weeks. Wednesday and Thursday couldn’t have been possible without the support of our administrative staff and all of our operational personnel. Thank you all for allowing us to utilize equipment and apparatuses, along with encouraging our recruits to push on. Big shout-out goes to David Turley for allowing us to moulage him in chocolate pudding for our lift assist, probably the best call of the night!
We look forward to continuing this tradition for future recruit classes to come to prepare them for station life and 24-hour shifts.

Recruit Fire Training Completion Ceremony

Please join us on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. as we celebrate the successful completion of Recruit Fire Training for our newest members of Newton County Fire Service.
That morning, our recruits will complete the NCFS Recruit Crucible—a demanding 24-hour capstone event designed to simulate life on shift while testing their physical endurance, mental resilience, teamwork, and decision-making. The Crucible serves as the culmination of months of hard work, sacrifice, and training.

Family, friends, NCFS members, and the community are invited to the Training Facility to witness this remarkable achievement. The event will conclude with our Survival March from Legion Field to the Training Facility along the Cricket Frog Trail. Upon the recruits arrival, we will hold a brief ceremony recognizing their accomplishment, followed by light refreshments and a time of celebration. We hope you will join us in recognizing the hard work and commitment of our newest firefighters.

We have knocked out Weeks 7 and 8 of Fire Recruit Training, and we are on the homestretch to the completion! We have been working away at the Firefighter 2 curriculum and skills, and the recruits have had fun learning about extrication, technical rescue/special operations, foam, pressurized container fires, incident scene operations, and more!

The recruits will test for NPQ FF2 in just 2 weeks! Thank you to everyone who is preparing to assist with the NCFS 24 hr Recruit Crucible. This should be a great time and awesome training experience.
