One of our favorite Bayside traditions officially kicked off as our 1st and 8th Grade Buddies met for the first time!
With every student from PK3-12th grade sharing one campus, Bayside has a special opportunity to create connections across grade levels. Each first grader is paired with an eighth grader (or two) who will serve as a friend, mentor, and familiar face throughout the year.
The big reveal happened with matching cards, followed by a get-to-know-you game and a snack together. This is just the beginning of plenty of fun, and friendships that last long after their buddy year is over.
Here’s to a great year of making memories together!

One campus. One community. So many ways to connect.
Community Time is a unique part of the Bayside experience. It serves as a campus-wide break designed to balance academic excellence with wellness while creating opportunities for students to connect, explore, and simply enjoy being together.
Today, Community Time was happening all across campus! Juniors and seniors met with a representative from Auburn University, Middle School students connected with their A-Day club sponsors, and our school counselors and Peer Helpers checked in with new students with an ice cream social on the library deck. And for some students? It was simply a chance to head to the Bluff and enjoy time with friends.
From college planning and clubs to ice cream and time on the Bluff, Community Time helps create the shared experiences and sense of belonging that make Bayside such a special community.

Science comes to life in our Lower School science lab!
Our students are learning by doing as they explore the fascinating world of living organisms. From observing mealworms transform from larvae to pupae and eventually darkling beetles, to raising butterflies and ladybugs and documenting each stage of their life cycles, there’s always something new to discover!
Students are also planting seeds and monitoring growth in our indoor classroom greenhouse, taking virtual zoo field trips to explore animal habitats and adaptations, and using scientific tools to observe, compare, investigate, and document changes.
These hands-on experiences go beyond the classroom—they inspire curiosity and help our students develop the careful observation skills of young scientists. We love seeing their questions, discoveries, and excitement come to life!

Mrs. Katie Ray’s junior English students brought their study of Sonny Brewer’s The Poet of Tolstoy Park to life with a field trip to Tolstoy Park, the Montrose home of local legend Henry Stuart—a landmark many Baysiders pass each and every day.
After being diagnosed with tuberculosis and given just months to live, Stuart traveled from Idaho to Fairhope in 1926. Inspired by the writings and philosophy of Leo Tolstoy, he built his own circular hut and found renewed purpose and a strong sense of community on the Eastern Shore—ultimately living another 20 years.
As part of their study, students have been exploring symbolism and how objects can represent a person’s beliefs, goals, dreams, and identity. Stuart’s handmade hut, built exactly 100 years ago, offered the perfect real-world example—embodying his ideals, ingenuity, and unconventional approach to life.
Mrs. Ray thoughtfully built lessons around the novel and Stuart’s life, giving students the opportunity to experience the setting firsthand. Their study then came full circle at Monday’s Senior Convocation for the Class of 2027, when author Sonny Brewer joined Bayside as the guest speaker.
From reading the story, to standing where it happened, to hearing from the author himself—this is learning that extends far beyond the classroom.

Senior Convocation is such a meaningful way to celebrate our seniors as they prepare to take the next step in their journey at Bayside.
This year’s guest speaker, local author and storyteller Sonny Brewer, shared an inspiring message about the importance of discovering what you love to do—even when it takes time to figure it out. He also reminded our seniors of a simple but powerful lesson: be kind to everyone you meet, because you never know when your paths may cross again.
As our seniors head into their last chapter at Bayside, we hope they carry these words with them: take your time, follow your interests, stay curious, and always lead with kindness.
Congratulations, Bayside Academy Class of 2027.

Yesterday, the entire Bayside Academy student body packed the stands to celebrate the official ribbon cutting and blessing of the new turf at Freedom Track & Field!
For years, Freedom Field has been home to Friday night football, soccer matches, track meets, and countless Bayside memories. Now, turf changes everything. This space becomes a year-round, all-weather resource for every student, every team, and every program—from morning workouts and afternoon practices to outdoor assemblies, place-based learning, and, of course, Friday Night Lights.
But as Athletic Director Jamie Ferguson reminded our students, the field itself isn’t the greatest gift: “The true blessing is actually sitting in the stands. The blessing is you, the students.”
This incredible addition to our campus was made possible by the generosity and commitment of our Bayside community—all with our students at the heart of it.
Here’s to the games, lessons, celebrations, and memories still to come at Freedom Track & Field. This field is for YOU, Admirals!

Mrs. Dorman’s 6th grade English students took their classroom to the Bayside pier as they explored this quarter’s theme of Identity: Finding Your Harbor.
With clipboards in hand and Mobile Bay as their backdrop, students reflected on the question: Just like boats need a harbor, people search for a place they feel safe and accepted. Where do you feel you belong?
Their writing also put their grammar lessons into practice as they incorporated simple, compound, and complex sentences.
This is the first of many special writing days Mrs. Dorman has planned around campus this year—because at Bayside, inspiration can be found everywhere.
