Heads up for Denver small business owners: the local minimum wage is going up again.

Starting January 1, 2027, Denver's minimum wage rises from $19.29 to $19.84 per hour. For tipped food and beverage employees, the cash wage moves to $16.82 per hour, as long as you're documenting at least $3.02 per hour in actual tip earnings.

If any of your team works inside Denver city limits, or close enough to the boundary that it's worth a second look, now is a good time to update your payroll settings and budget forecasts. Denver adjusts this rate every year based on the Consumer Price Index, and the city has been known to penalize businesses that keep paying the prior year's number by mistake.

A wage change is also a good moment to step back and look at your staffing plan as a whole. If you're weighing a new hire against a tighter labor budget, it helps to go in knowing what each role actually costs you.
