BOOKS ARE WORK. HANDWORK IS CULTURE.

Thursday night, BOOKFORGE sits inside a building full of other people making things.

That's exactly where we belong.

The First Thursday Night Market returns to Erie Labor Temple this Thursday from 6–10 PM.

Come through the building.

Find BOOKFORGE.

Then keep walking.

Meet the other artists, makers, bakers, and small businesses setting up around ELT.

Buy something directly from somebody who made it.

Ask questions.

Look closely.

Craft belongs on the table.
Paper. Ink. Leather. Metal. Cloth. Paint. Food. Objects made slowly enough to carry evidence of the hands that made them.

First Thursday Night Market returns to Erie Labor Temple on September 3, 6–10 PM.

We're building the September cohort now and looking for artists, makers, designers, publishers, food makers, creative businesses, and people making things that deserve to be encountered in person.

Fine art. Prints. Books. Objects. Wearables. Small-batch goods. Strange useful things. Things we're forgetting to name.

Experienced vendor? Good.
Never held a market table before? Also good.

Show us the work.
Applications remain open through our final call on Tuesday, September 1.

BRING THE WORK. HOLD THE TABLE. GROW THE ROOM.

Longer evenings. Cooler air. Fresh work. Our September market brings the best of Erie's makers, artists, designers, collectors, and creative neighbors together under one roof.

THE THREAD HOLDS THE STRUCTURE IN PLAIN SIGHT.

Japanese stab binding doesn’t hide how a book is built.

It reveals it.

Every hole has a job.
Every pass follows a sequence.
Every corner redirects the pattern.
Every pull sets the tension.

On September 9, we’re going to slow that process down at the BOOKFORGE table and make it understandable by hand.

Four traditional patterns.
Four completed books.
One evening of real book work.

Beginner-friendly.

THE THREAD ISN'T DECORATION. IT'S STRUCTURE.

Japanese stab binding makes the mechanics of the book visible.

Every hole matters. Every pass has an order. Every corner changes the path. Every pull changes the tension.
On September 9, we're going to slow that structure down and make it understandable.

Four traditional patterns. Four completed books. One evening at the BOOKFORGE table.

TOMORROW: JAM & SLAM.
Bring an instrument, a poem, a lyric, a voice—or just yourself.

Jam with people you haven't met yet. Bring your own group. Form one for the night. Work something out by yourself. Put spoken word over live music, or keep the two completely separate.

No judges. No brackets. No required performance.

FOUR BOOKS. FOUR STITCHES. ONE NIGHT.

On Wednesday, September 9, the BOOKFORGE table opens for an evening of Japanese-style bookbinding.

We’ll work through four traditional stab-binding structures by hand: preparing the paper, punching the sewing stations, following the thread path, controlling tension, turning corners, and finishing the binding cleanly.

This isn’t a demonstration you stand around and watch.

You make the books. Four of them. And you take them home.

No previous bookbinding experience is required. The repetition is intentional. By the fourth structure, the goal is not simply to have copied a pattern. It is to begin understanding why the binding works.

FOUR BOOKS. FOUR STITCHES. ONE NIGHT.

On Wednesday, September 9, the BOOKFORGE table opens for an evening of Japanese-style bookbinding at Erie Labor Temple.

You’ll learn four traditional stab-binding patterns: preparing the paper, punching the holes, following the thread path, controlling tension, turning corners, and finishing the binding cleanly.

And you won’t leave with a practice sheet.

You’ll leave with four books you bound yourself.

No previous bookbinding experience is required.
