Spring melt at Northern Star Pogo Mine means more than a change in season, it’s also an important time for environmental monitoring and proactive efforts across our operation. 🌱

During this time, our environmental team steps up focused monitoring of water movement across the operation, including inspections of drainage controls, tracking water pathways, maintaining sediment controls, managing containment areas, and ensuring runoff is appropriately directed and contained.

These activities are part of a broader year-round commitment to environmental management. Spring melt is one of the key periods where careful planning and monitoring play an important role in how we responsibly manage our operations.

“I’m proud that I’m one of the go-to guys people come to when they face challenges. Being there for my team and hearing them out, being open to what they may be going through, that’s important to me. Being patient and open to learning, open to new ideas, is also very important. You must experience this job from every level to be effective, efficient, and safe. And I think it’s important to remember where you started. I still go out on the floor and help my team whenever I can.”

Meet Ryan, a Fairbanks local who has been part of Pogo since the very beginning. He started as a grind floor operator in 2006 and worked his way to Operations Superintendent, growing right alongside the mine. For Ryan, it’s not just about the work, it’s about the people, the pride, and being part of something that has lasted two decades.

Keeping Alaska pristine, one bag at a time!

Northern Star Pogo Mine employees rolled up their sleeves for Golden Heart Clean-Up Day, picking up trash and volunteering to be heavy haulers to help transport garbage to the landfill.

A clean community takes teamwork, and we’re proud to support efforts that help keep our neighbourhoods clean, beautiful, and welcoming to everyone.

Mental Health Matters, this month and every month.

When you are mentally healthy, you are able to bring your best to work and be your best when you are at home. That's important to us.

With over 23% of people in the US currently diagnosed with a mental health issue - chances are you, or someone you know, has struggled with mental health.

Just like for physical health, being proactive about our mental health, as well as getting support when we don't feel well is key.

At Northern Star Pogo Mine, our employees can access online health and wellbeing programs on our Employee Recognition & Health platform, along with free 1:1 counselling with trained therapists. We also have trained Mental Health First Aiders onsite to help you navigate the options and connect with the right resources.

It's personalised support for our employees, for something we all have and need to look after, our mental health.
