What pests should Seattle homeowners watch for this fall?

As temperatures begin to drop, pests may start searching for warmer, protected places around your home. Fall is a good time to know what to look for and where these pests may be hiding.

🕷️ Spiders: Check garages, basements, crawl spaces, windows, and corners for webs, egg sacs, and increased activity.
🪲 Stink bugs: Look around exterior walls, windows, doors, attics, and wall voids. They may gather on sunny sides of homes while looking for protected places to overwinter.
🐭 Rodents: Check attics, crawl spaces, garages, wall voids, and basements for droppings, gnaw marks, scratching sounds, and entry holes.
🐜 Ants: Look around kitchens, bathrooms, sinks, foundations, and areas with moisture where ants may find food and water.
🪰 Flies: Check windows, attics, upper floors, and wall voids. Some flies seek protected areas as temperatures drop.
🐝 Wasps: Look around eaves, rooflines, wall voids, decks, and garages. Wasp colonies can be at or near their largest in late summer and early fall, making activity more noticeable.

Before temperatures continue to drop, take a look around your foundation, windows, doors, garage, attic, crawl spaces, and roofline.

Which fall pest have you noticed around your Seattle home?

What does a black widow spider egg sac look like? 🕷️

Black widow egg sacs can be surprisingly easy to miss. They often look like small, white, cotton-like balls attached to webs or tucked away in dark, protected areas.

But inside that tiny sac could be dozens to more than 100 spiderlings waiting to hatch.

Our Insight Pest Solutions technicians are trained to recognize the signs of black widow activity, including their distinctive egg sacs, so potential problems can be identified before those spiderlings emerge and spread throughout the area.

If you come across a suspicious white, cotton-like sac, don’t disturb it or try to handle it yourself. Have a pest professional identify it and determine the best way to safely address the situation.

Sometimes, the biggest pest problems can start with something that looks incredibly small. 🕷️

Which pest control hot take do you agree with the most?

We spend every day helping homeowners protect their homes, and along the way, we've picked up a few opinions. Some of these might surprise you!

🐜 Seeing one ant is usually a sign there are more nearby.
🏡 Even the cleanest homes can experience pest problems.
🛠️ DIY treatments can help in some situations, but they don't always solve the root of the problem.
📅 Year-round pest control helps protect your home through every season—not just when pests are most noticeable.
🕷️ Seeing spiders inside isn't always about the spiders themselves. They often go where their food source is, which can mean other insects are already around.

Now it's your turn! Which hot take do you agree with? Is there one you'd debate?

Why do wasps live in the ground?

Not all wasps build their nests up high! Some species build their nests underground, often using existing holes or small openings in the soil. If you notice wasps repeatedly flying in and out of the same hole in your yard, there may be a nest below the surface.

Underground nests can provide protection from the elements and a naturally sheltered place for wasps to build and raise their colony. Some species may even take advantage of abandoned rodent burrows or other existing spaces.

Because these nests can be difficult to spot, it’s important to be cautious if you notice increased wasp activity around a hole in your yard. Disturbing an underground nest can cause the wasps to become defensive.

If you think you’ve found an underground wasp nest, keep your distance and let a pest professional handle it safely.

Have you ever found a wasp nest in the ground?
