You may notice more spider webs in the fall because many spiders reach adulthood in autumn. ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ

After spending the summer growing, many web-building spiders become fully mature by late summer and early fall. As a result, they build larger, more noticeable webs and become easier to spot. At the same time, many male spiders leave their webs to search for mates, increasing spider activity during the season.

So those extra spider webs decorating gardens, porches, and walkways each fall aren't a sign of a spider invasion. They're a sign that spider mating season is underway! ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ

Selman Waksman was a microbiologist whose research transformed medicine through the discovery of antibiotics derived from soil microorganisms. His work helped launch the search for natural compounds capable of fighting infectious diseases.

While studying bacteria and other microbes found in soil, Waksman and his team discovered streptomycin in 1943, the first effective antibiotic treatment for tuberculosis. At a time when tuberculosis was one of the world's deadliest diseases, this breakthrough provided doctors with a powerful new tool for saving lives.

Waksman also introduced the term "antibiotic" to describe substances produced by microorganisms that inhibit the growth of other microbes. His research led to the discovery of several additional antimicrobial compounds and helped establish the field of antibiotic development.

The impact of Waksman's work extends far beyond a single discovery. His contributions helped usher in the antibiotic era, revolutionizing the treatment of infectious diseases and improving public health worldwide.

In 1952, Waksman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of streptomycin.

The Harvest Moon appears larger near the horizon because of an optical illusion.

When the Moon is low in the sky, our brains compare it to familiar objects like trees, buildings, and mountains. This makes it seem much larger than when it's high overhead, even though its actual size in the sky remains nearly the same.

This phenomenon is known as the Moon Illusion, and it has fascinated skywatchers for thousands of years. In fact, photographs show that the Moon's diameter stays essentially unchanged as it rises through the sky.
