You can't map income without an invoice.

You really shouldn't even be recording income without an invoice. The only other way to get revenue into Freshbooks is to use a feature called Other Income, But that is meant for little bits of revenue. Like perhaps savings account interest deposits. Or maybe a tiny bit of Amazon affiliate income. Or maybe the occasional sale of a digital template.

I'm such a satisfied Relay customer for my banking needs (but it also does so much more than just banking!). And I'm super curious about Kick, especially because of they integration with FreshBooks.

If you are in business, I really don't know why you would use any bank other than Relay.

And if you are a FreshBooks user that has integrated with Kick, I'd give you a full free hour of my time to jump on zoom and let me just see a little behind the scenes of how the integration is working. And then we could spend the remainder of the hour just letting me look at how you are using FreshBooks and I promise you I'd offer really great tips on how to use it more efficiently.

I know that button looks like you should use it. So big and enticing.

But your bank and CC connection is going to create your expenses for you. That is how the software is supposed to work.

So if you use this button, you will just duplicate things and create such a mess.

Occasionally, you might buy a business item on a personal card. That is the only time you should POSSIBLY use that button. But know that every time you use that button you will need to make a Journal Entry to clear out Petty Cash account (the name of the “holding account” where FreshBooks puts transactions that cannot be reconciled).

You don't want to be creating Journal Entries, right? You know that sounds very unfun.

So I even have a hack to avoid having to make a JE.

Just have the business pay yourself back for the exact amount of the business purchase you made on your personal card.

That will cause the bank connection to create an expense for you, and you will just classify that to the proper expense category and make a note that it was an accidental purchase on a personal card. And make sure you attach your receipt.

Being very strict at separating your business and personal transactions is one of the easiest ways to keep your bookkeeping simple.

Are you getting killed by payment processing fees?

FreshBooks Payments by Stripe will be increasing their fees by the end of June if you want to save your customer’s payment information and charge them automatically.

Q: Is there any way to change the look and brand colors of my Invoices in FreshBooks?

A: There sure is!

If you go to the “Settings” area on the very bottom of your left menu bar, you’ll be able to find an option to edit your “Brand Appearance”.

From that area, you can select from 3 templates for the way they look. You’ll also be able to select your brand color hex codes, select your preferred font, and add your business logo.

Invoicing in FreshBooks has so many different features and tweaks, it really takes a while to learn them all. We discuss a lot of those features in the FreshBooks Office Hours community. If you want to apply to join, reply below.
