🚨 CALL GOVERNOR NEWSOM—URGE HIM TO VETO SB 1203 🚨
SB 1203 could make it more expensive to obtain and maintain a California Guard Card by increasing training requirements and limiting how required training may be provided.
For people trying to enter the security industry and earn a decent wage, these additional costs and barriers could make it harder to get started. For security companies, increased training, wage, administrative, and compliance expenses will raise the cost of providing professional security services.
Those costs will ultimately be passed on to clients—including small businesses, apartment communities, construction sites, retail centers, and local event organizers that rely on security as an extra layer of protection.
Many small businesses already operate on tight budgets. If professional security becomes unaffordable, they may be forced to reduce coverage or eliminate it entirely. That means fewer security jobs, less protection for businesses and greater risk for employees, customers, residents, and property.
We support fair wages and quality training for security professionals. But legislation intended to help workers should not make it harder to enter the industry, reduce employment opportunities, or price essential security services beyond the reach of small businesses.
