Monday, June 14th was World Blood Donor Day, “an event to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood” (World Health Organization (WHO)), but it is not too late to give.

The American Red Cross is currently seeking donations, to help with an ongoing critical blood shortage here in CT and nationwide. If you are able to give or volunteer, contact your local blood donation center, or find the next local blood drive here: https://www.redcrossblood.org

Together we can help save lives.

The number of trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries has risen and depleted the nation's blood inventory, according to The American Red Cross.

In this poetic essay in the The New York Times, author Ingrid Rojas Contreras describes the benefits of “mesmerism,” the 18th century precursor to hypnosis pioneered by German physician Franz Anton Mesmer, on creativity and productivity. Through mesmerism, she uses color and music to induce a state of ultra-concentration, in order to write.

While Contreras’ rituals may be a bit idiosyncratic for regular use, the idea of creating routine in order to get things done more efficiently is a helpful one.

Lessons in consistency, practice, and concentration can be gleaned from mesmerism, and applied to generating greater output and finding a more efficient workflow, particularly during a time of working from home, or returning to an office environment after so many months.

What do you do to improve your concentration and productivity?

Using self-mesmerism I felt overtaken on a cellular level by a serene form of concentration. I began to accumulate pages and finish my projects.
