Happy Fun Fact Friday, neighbors! With Father's Day right around the corner, we took a look back at how this special day actually started.

Did you know that the very first statewide celebration of Father's Day took place on June 19, 1910? 🗓️

The holiday was entirely inspired by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd from Washington. She was raised by a dedicated Civil War veteran and single father, William Jackson Smart. While listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909, Sonora felt that fathers deserved the exact same recognition and love. Thanks to her hard work and petitioning, her home state celebrated the very first Father's Day the following year!

It took a few more decades to become an official national holiday, but it all started with one daughter's appreciation for her father's strength and devotion.

👇 We love a story about honoring our elders! How is your family planning to celebrate the special fathers in your life this weekend?

🪑 Wellness Wednesday: The Safe Chair Stand Challenge

The care team at 1Heart Glendale wants to share the single best exercise for keeping your legs independent and ready for daily life.

It is called the "Sit-to-Stand," and it mimics the exact movement you use every time you get out of a car or a favorite sofa.

Sit on a sturdy kitchen chair, plant your feet firmly on the floor, and lean your upper body forward slightly.

Using your leg muscles—and pushing off the armrests for extra safety if you need to—slowly stand all the way up, hold for one second, and gently lower yourself back down.

Practicing this safe movement just five times a day builds incredible power in your hips and thighs to keep you moving confidently.

Happy Fun Fact Friday, neighbors! 🚲☀️

Did you know that June 12th marks a history day in how the world moves? On this day in 1817, the earliest ancestor of the bicycle—known as the "dandy horse"—was first demonstrated by Karl von Drais! This incredible invention transformed transit and sparked a global shift toward independent, self-propelled movement.

Staying active and mobile is one of the greatest keys to independent living and healthy aging. Whether it’s a bike ride or a gentle walk, keeping our bodies moving does wonders for our physical health and mental clarity.

✨ Wellness Tip for Today: Celebrate this milestone by getting outside and moving today! Take a stroll down a favorite path, enjoy the fresh air, and appreciate the simple joy of independent movement.

🚶‍♂️ Wellness Wednesday: The Indoor Hallway Stroll

When the Glendale weather is a bit too warm or the sidewalks feel unsafe, 1Heart Glendale recommends moving your walk indoors.

You can easily get your steps in by using the longest, clearest hallway or room in your home. It's a fantastic, low-impact way to keep your joints moving and your heart healthy without ever leaving the comfort of your air conditioning.

Before you start, just do a quick scan to ensure your path is completely clear of any loose rugs, clutter, or cords so you can stride with total confidence!

💡Did you know that June 5th marks a major turning point in how we talk about dementia? On this day in 2004, former President Ronald Reagan passed away after a historic, decade-long journey with Alzheimer's disease.

By bravely sharing his diagnosis with the world years earlier, he broke the heavy public stigma surrounding cognitive decline. His battle completely transformed the conversation around senior brain health, while his wife, Nancy Reagan, became a leading national voice advocating for the emotional and physical well-being of family caregivers.

✨ Caring for a loved one with cognitive decline requires immense strength. Use today as a reminder to prioritize your own wellness.

Take 15 minutes just for yourself today—step outside, read a chapter of a book, or just breathe. To give your best care, you have to care for yourself too!

Today, we are focusing on the critical first step of emergency readiness: knowing how to spot a heart attack before cardiac arrest even happens ❤️‍🩹

🚨 What to Do Immediately
If you suspect a loved one is having a heart attack, call 911 right away. Do not wait to see if the symptoms pass.

Because emergencies are unpredictable, having a trained professional by their side brings immense safety. Our 1Heart Glendale home care aides are trained to stay calm, recognize these subtle changes in health, call emergency services instantly, and provide certified CPR support if it becomes necessary.

📞 Ensure your loved one is never alone in a critical moment. Contact our 1Heart Glendale team today to learn how our trained, vigilant caregivers keep safety at the forefront of daily home care.
