October is ✨ AAC Awareness Month ✨

AAC stands for "Augmentative and Alternative Communication" - a way of helping people communicate using any form of communication other than speech. AAC can include sign language, picture books, or a speech tablet.

AAC gives our patients the ability to share their wants, needs, feelings, thoughts, opinions, and personalities! Because communication is so much more than just talking. 💚

Here are a few things to know about AAC:
✔️ AAC can look different for everyone. 🤩
✔️ AAC can be a picture book or communication board 📖 or AAC can be a tablet or speech-generating device. 📱
✔️ AAC can be used as a temporary way to communicate or a long-term method of communications. 🗓️
✔️ Using AAC doesn't mean someone never uses spoken words - they can be used together! ✅
✔️ Most importantly, every person deserves to be able to communicate! 💙

Proposed CMS policy changes threaten pediatric speech therapy with the potential for significant reimbursement cuts by 2027.

These cuts trickle down to Medicaid and private insurance, threatening session lengths, clinic sustainability, and access to care for thousands of children.

The rule is finalized in November—which means right now is our only window to fight back.

Today is Apraxia Awareness Day. What is apraxia? We're glad you asked! It's a motor speech disorder that makes it really hard for children to speak. Most kids with apraxia can understand what you're saying, but they just can't get their mouths to say what they want to say. Our therapists use individualized therapy to help children with apraxia learn how to speak clearly, and we love watching each child get stronger every week!! 💙

One of the best parts of what we do is getting to share the success stories. It's always a celebration when we see one of our amazing kids get rewarded for their hard work. This sweet guy has been working with our Angie Gajewski: Literacy Specialist to improve his reading skills, and he was awarded with a certificate for completing the 2nd grade reading program!! Hard work pays off! 🎉

Our literacy specialist has openings for the fall and can see kids at private schools, local libraries, and our clinic located off of Woodruff Road. Call or email for more info today - spots fill up FAST!
